@dantypo because everyone in washington has similar or worse skeletons in their closet, everyone knows about everyone’s skeletons, and it’s a gigantic mexican standoff

@blashdril if you have a run of futility as bad as the previous run of success was good, and considering the salary cap didn’t exist for most of that run and there was still a scouting inefficiency to exploit, was tha run really all that impressive?

I was gonna say Arizona last made it in 2012 (2020 bubble doesn’t count) but I see that Utah just clinched.
What a pathetic franchise we have become. Officially the laughing stock of the league

Detroit now holds the NHL’s longest active playoff drought, having missed the dance for the 10th straight year. #LGRW

Sometimes teams have split personalities.
Last year, the Wings were great until the 4 Nations Cup break.
This year, they were great until the Olympic break.
Afterward, the team lost its way.
And you can blame a little bit of everything--players, coaches, management--but you can fix the personnel.
How? Some free agents, some trades, and a lot of bringing their prospects to the fore. Players like ASP, Cossa, Augustine, MBN, etc. have to step up. And others!
You can't just sign a ton of free agents and make a ton of trades any more.
Sure, the Wings need a 2nd line center, a power forward and a tough D. But maybe 1 of those things comes from a trade or a free agent signing. The other stuff has to come from the prospect pool.

One of those games. This won't necessarily "cost the Wings the playoffs" per se... But it makes the remaining 5 games that much more important to all but "win out"--and the Wings will require a lot of "help" to overcome their own deficiencies.

Look if this happens I am not going to criticize it necessarily but it just feels like a chicken shit way out 🤷🏻♂️
Draper or Horcoff would just be an “Yzerman puppet” and it would be nothing but a paper move and nothing would fundamentally change. Maybe I am wrong on this, but that’s how it feels to me.
The bottom line is this:
If the glaringly obvious culture problem is going to get fixed in Detroit…it’s going to take everyone adjusting their approach. Yzerman, Draper, Horcoff, and a hell of a lot more. These issues can’t continue for another string of years, period.
This move would feel like a band-aid, but maybe I am wrong and it would work. I’m just talking. #LGRW

32 Thoughts (Mar 30): On the talk Steve Yzerman's job may be in trouble if DET doesn't make the playoffs, Elliotte theorizes what if Yzerman moves up to President of Hockey Operations and someone like Kris Draper or Shawn Horcoff gets promoted to GM. #LGRW #NHL
