Tonight was overwhelming in the best way. Not only was I officially sworn in as a Trustee for Alvin ISD, but I was also nominated and elected to serve as Vice President of the Board. As I shared tonight, this moment did not begin in the boardroom. It began in countless conversations—with students, parents, educators, and community members. I carry each of those voices with me, and I won’t forget the people who poured into me and trusted me to be their advocate. God saw fit to place me in this position, and I do not take that lightly. I am committed to advocating for every single individual in our district and ensuring that we stay galvanized and grounded in our purpose—every single day. To God be the glory.

Thank You, Alvin ISD Community At the start of this journey, many said it was an insurmountable task—an outsider challenging a four-term incumbent who was also the sitting board president. If this race had only been about me, I might have believed them. But this campaign was never just about one person. It was about you—our community—and doing what is right for our kids. That message resonated across every corner of Alvin ISD. You showed up, you made your voices heard, and together, we achieved something remarkable. With 3,000 votes and a 17% margin of victory, the results are not just a win—they are a clear mandate for change and a new direction. This evening, I was honored to accept the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award. I grew up inspired by the work of the NAACP — by all those who took up the fight for justice, equality, and opportunity. Their example is part of the reason I chose a life of public service. At this moment, people around our nation see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy, and ask, “What do we do now?” We know exactly what to do. Like those who forged the NAACP and those who carried its legacy forward, we use our power. We organize, mobilize, educate, and advocate. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s necessary. Because the fight is worth it. This chapter in our American story will be written not by whoever occupies the Oval Office, nor by the wealthiest among us. The American story will be written by we, the people.

Can’t wait for the all of the MAGA Black folks at the White House yesterday to comment on how Donald Trump fired a Black 4-star general as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and has named less qualified white man. I’ll wait.
