After 6 months of dedicated work...I'm finally ready to start sharing my indie game. HOMS is a turn based fantasy strategy game I've been building from scratch. It's heavily inspired by classic strategy and RPG games I grew up playing. HOMS features a hero first approach, tactical combat, permadeath and a randomly generated world where every match feels different. There's still a lot to build, but I'm excited to finally share the journey! #indiedev #gamedev #pixelart

@MadMaraca It depends on the art style you are going for. Realism does not necessarily mean better gameplay.

😈 It's not Doom 👓 It's not Half-Life ☢️ It's not Duke Nukem But if our indie game reminds you of them… We're probably doing something right!

@timsoret It causes eye strain if you stare at those rain particles for too long , too visually aggressive!

Rain should never look like this. Like in so many games, this is way too bright given the ambient lighting. Rain being water, it's barely visible if: - it doesn't refract something bright - it isn't lit by something bright Raindrop shape is a boring streak, no refraction, variable width, specular highlights, motion blur, depth of field, randomized angle. Also no rain curtains. No volumetrics. No splashes. Rain isn't dripping from edges & from plants. Except the ground, materials don't look wet. Rain angle doesn't correspond to the surrounding wind speed. Thunder doesn't cast a shadow.

Just watch and LISTEN to this rain storm inside a jungle in Black Flag Resynced. Look how that lightning at the end reveals a ship in the distance... This is just unreal man I can't believe gaming tech has reached such heights

@oldyzach ouff... the nostalgia, I remember playing this game as a kid and dying by those worms in the early start of it, the death was too cinematic to forget!

... as for in-game intros, that would also be in my top 10. Very high up, in fact. Very obvious, right? Another World, Amiga.

@TaivalGame Fishing is the RPG equivalent of a smoke break, can't go wrong with it! Nice looking game👏

there is an unspoken rule in gaming that the best RPGs has to have "fishing" so yes, you can enjoy fishing in Taival 🎣 #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame

@wmcoyne Add those UI sounds even if they are subtle, I think its those small details that can make a game memorable, I still remember the click sounds of my favorite games that I played growing up.

@lychbyte The environmental sounds are starting to bring to attention that my UI doesn't make any noise (placing items, clicking buttons, etc.). It all makes the experience feel more complete.

@ColdBanner haha well if that is the case then you definitely need to tune down the difficulty a bit! You can balance it by having different difficulty modes; Easy, Medium, Hard and maybe a Hardcore mode

Meet the Slime! I wanted an early game enemy that could still be threatening without dealing more damage. It deals 0 damage but slows your hero down, giving nearby enemies a chance to close in... or making escape harder. #indiegame #gamedev

@TheRealWizar I think it would lose its "Aura" and nostalgic feel. It will risk looking like another generic Unreal Engine fantasy game. I also believe that there is a sweet spot between beautiful visuals and good gameplay, very few games master both.

What if World of Warcraft was redone and they removed all the cartoonie graphics? Would it still hold its appeal or does the cartoon look contain a special nostalgic value that would change the game too much? 🤔

As a solo dev with a coding background, learning pixel art basics and keeping my animations consistent has been the hardest part of my journey with HOMS. Left: V1 of the Undead Hero attack😅 Right: V2 after learning what I was actually doing. Progress feels good! #pixelart
