TN maintained 100% participation & paid for free ACT support for 2,200 students through @utmartin. Low income students achieved a 2-point increase and 1 in 3 students earned a qualifying score for the HOPE scholarship. (Not measured: you never know which signal creates belief.)

Furniture project #2

@DrBradJohnson In TN recess is mandated for K-6. In our district everyone gets recess K-8 at least 20 minutes daily.

Its interesting that in Finland, schools avg 5 hours per day and yet fit in 15 mins of recess every hour, but in the US we go 7 +hours and can’t fit in 10 mins total for recess.

My 1st year teaching (2003) I took home around $37k after taxes in NJ. I know that is not bad compared to other states. To put things in perspective, I am curious if other educators would share their state and starting salary (after taxes).

Since I finished my doctorate this summer I have been looking for ways to fill the need to do something and keep my brain occupied. This is my first piece of furniture I built from scratch. Now I’m planning the next piece. #postdoctoratelull #alittleadd #trevecca

Teaching about Dr King is NOT an alternative to teaching a kid how to read. Literacy is cultural relevancy. Literacy is equity. Literacy is anti-racism. If we're not providing direct instruction to teach kids how to read, then all the social justice in the world won't help them.
