@fatemajraja The birkin is also extremely oversaturated and accessible now (relatively, due to more resale options and better high quality reps) it also didnt beat the SnP for the first time in a while recently

I watched a woman at a dinner party in South Mumbai spend twenty minutes explaining why her bag wasn't Hermès. Not apologizing for it. Not defending a budget choice. Explaining. She talked about the artisan workshop in West Bengal. The waiting list she'd been on. The traditional weaving technique most people had never heard of. The sustainability practices. The fact that only people "in the know" would recognize the brand. She spent more time talking about why she didn't buy the Birkin than most people spend talking about why they did.And everyone at the table was riveted. That's when it hit me: the luxury game has completely flipped. The flex isn't what you can afford anymore. It's what you understand. The logo—the very thing luxury brands spent billions building equity in—has become embarrassing to the people who can actually afford it. And that’s what dominates the new luxury: consumers are collecting expertise, not objects. The brand that gives them the most to know—wins the loyalty that economic capital alone can’t buy.

@AgentPaneer @cleanbowled671 @MariGO2thepolls @MarysRoommate I dont believe in caste just sharing about my experience. Im a saraswat brahmin if you only count dads side, and in KPs its very very encouraged to cook meat for Herath. This is part of their worship. Same for bengali brahmins who offer meat and fish to devi.

Why hasn’t Vivek just converted to Christianity? It would obviously be advantageous to his career and he does not strike me as an especially spiritual man. He’s obviously mostly driven by professional ambition.

A core memory for me is telling everyone at a family dinner Gisele is worth more than Brady and everyone laughing at me as if its THAT implausible that the worlds top supermodel is paid more than Tom Brady like stfu so glad everyone had to eat their words
Allie ✞@allie__voss

Leaving literal Tom Brady for a guy who's - Shorter - Poorer - Has way less status Makes it pretty difficult to say that all women care about is hypergamy, clearly there's more to the calculation

Its so funny that this is the context in which people know plum sykes because rhe context i know her in is her very popular substack telling u what butter is appropriate to gift to a hostess u truly can make ur career in ANYTHING
Louis Pisano@LouisPisano

not so fun fact: her grandfather was one of the architects of the imperial settlement (Sykes-Picot) that placed Palestine under British control, destabilized the Middle East, and laid the groundwork for Palestinian dispossession.

He just sees a thin Asian woman and thinks she looks like a supermodel whereas in China her Mom would call her ugly to her face. It’s not a big mystery.

@bizlet7 maybe he is tired of party girls and girl bosses. maybe he wants to settle down with a girl that looks up to him. maybe he figures shreking will net him a loyal girlfriend. at the end of the day its not our business, they are a fairly cute couple anyway.

I thought social complications like bullying, status games, body shaming, cliques etc wouldn’t be a big fixture in these schools but turns out I was wrong. It is probably just the reality of growing up but I am on a quest to find a gurukul like set up one day, if not I will make one.

Man, I had mentally planned on sending my kids to Rishi Valley but having met a few KFI school kids recently I am reconsidering my decision. Turns out Krishnamurthy’s philosophies are not enough to shield a child from the messy realities of growing up. Huh, who would’ve thought 🫠

If ur Indian u 1000% can not pull off WASP-y prep and should throw out cable knits nor Sloane Ranger preppy (although the latter is slightly more within reach) best jumper style for brownies is merino wool and cashmere (not the recycled kind)

I’ve never seen a non-New England-WASP pull off a cable knit jumper, even a Sloane Ranger this side of the Atlantic can’t do it Conversely,Sloane Rangers are the only ones who can pull off mohair jumpers. To conclude, you have to be protestant for cable knit & anglican for mohair.
