A story about words, kings, and Charles.
In Slavic languages, the word for "king" is
Czech král
Polish król
Slov./BCS kralj ...
They all go back to Charles the Great (747-814). At the time, he was *the king*, so his name became a common noun meaning 'king'. Like German Kaiser
