SM Entertainment has revealed details on aespa’s “WDA (Whole Different Animal) (feat. G-DRAGON)” music video in a new press release: — Set in an era where the boundaries between reality and the digital world have become increasingly blurred to the point where the concept of the “real” can no longer be substantiated. The music video features beings that bear the faces of aespa, yet are distinctly *not* aespa. Amidst this chaos and conflict, the video captures aespa as they ultimately break through their own internal fissures (Complæxity) to once again validate their existence. In particular, given that aespa has since their debut centered their worldview around their virtual avatars, “ae-aespa,” to construct a narrative in which real and digital selves coexist, this music video was designed to naturally prompt viewers to confront the question, “What is real?” Through a visual direction that captures the unsettling atmosphere of an age where familiar images are endlessly replicated and consumed, the video explores an environment where the lines between original and copy, as well as reality and virtuality, have become blurred.
