The @SHL0MS performance aftermath is even more revealing, we go from people AI critiquing the work without knowing their body of work well enough, others thinking he literally sold the image and missing the point entirely, we have random AI haters who jump on, we have Art world people that try to position themselves intellectually above Shloms out of ego or envy, we have people that celebrate the work uncritically, we have people that try to use it for their own narratives… it’s a wild mix. We even have shloms publicly feeling attacked and misunderstood, which feels out of character. Not sure if this is my favorite piece but say what you want, an artist who stirs that much discourse in a world where people normally dont care about what the next person is doing anymore, is a good artist. And he’s been doing it consistently for years, tackling some of the most urgent themes around markets, attention, social media, speculation, internet culture, and the way value gets constructed online. With the Monet piece we have the typical “my kid could have painted that situation”.
