Many often lose sight of the basic truth that those who joined the Islamic Resistance to block “Israel” from achieving its longstanding goals in Lebanon, to push back occupation, & to stand between the country & aggression, were never personally obliged to do so on behalf of the rest of us. They chose a path most do not touch, a life defined by risk, sacrifice, constant strain, not because anyone asked it of them, but because they believe they are bound by a duty, including a religious one. But the duty itself isn’t unique to them &, in principle, rests on all of us. The difference is that they step forward & carry it, while most of us do not. So it is worth being clear about what follows from that. They don’t owe you or me anything on a personal level. There’s no contract, no entitlement. If anything, we owe them, & at the very least, we owe them a baseline of respect, especially in moments when the reality unfolding does not match the expectations we’ve built from a distance.
