Quinlan Terry’s triumphant Richmond Riverside (1988). It’s so good that the first time I saw it 15 years ago I had no idea it wasn’t an authentic Georgian grouping. It now fits in as if it always belonged.

Even the experts can see it. Elections expert Prof Tony Travers says what we already know Southwark isn’t a done deal. @swklibdems are strong, growing & pushing further across the borough. No overall control is possible and we’re the only credible alternative to Labour.

Liberal Democrats will freeze council tax for the poorest households, and expand the cost of living fund. Southwark Labour, and the Labour Mayor of London, have increased council tax every single year.

Southwark Liberal Democrats have a plan to fix Southwark's housing crisis. We'd build more council homes, and force developers to build half of all new homes as affordable to local people. southwark-libdems.org.uk/news/article/r…

Labour have overseen a housing crisis that's left 22,000 households on the social housing waiting list, and forcing families to move out, with seven schools closing in the last few years. In 15 out of 23 wards - zero council homes have been started by Southwark Labour.

In case you missed Cllr David Watson's riposte of 16 years of Labour failure at Wednesday's final council assembly. Labour are in power everywhere, delivering nowhere. Only the Liberal Democrats have a bold, liberal plan to fix Southwark.

Last night we gave Southwark Labour the opportunity to stand up for Southwark residents, and call for Keir Starmer to go. They decided to back this failing government. Only Liberal Democrats can stand up to this Labour government that has lost its way.

🚨Breaking 🚨 Labour have broken most of the promises in their last manifesto. It's no wonder residents have lost trust in Labour - they're in power everywhere, but delivering nowhere. It's time for change - the Liberal Democrats have a plan to fix Southwark.

Tonight we scrutinised the council’s self-congratulatory end-of-term report. But residents know the reality: the housing service rated by the regulator as failing, repeated Ombudsman maladministration rulings, repairs problems, safety backlogs and major works overspends

Every pane of glass around you. 🪟 Every window. Every phone screen. Every car windscreen. Every skyscraper.🇬🇧 All made the same way. All using the same process. Invented in a kitchen sink in Lancashire. His name was Sir Alastair Pilkington. He wasn't even related to the glass company. He just happened to share the name and married into the family. In 1952 he was doing the washing up at home. He watched the grease float on the water. Perfectly flat. Undisturbed. And thought: what if molten glass could do that? Before this moment, flat glass had been made the same way for three hundred years. 😰 You melted sand. You poured it into sheets. Then you ground it. And polished it. By hand. For hours. A third of every sheet was wasted in the process. The work was brutal. The results were inconsistent. Nobody questioned it. That was just how glass was made. Pilkington went to his bosses at Pilkington Brothers in St Helens with his idea. They backed him. It took seven years. It cost £7 million. An enormous sum in the 1950s. There were years where nothing worked. The company nearly went bankrupt. His idea: pour molten glass at 1,100°C onto a bath of molten tin. Glass is less dense than tin. It floats. It spreads. Both surfaces fire-polished perfectly flat by the heat. No grinding. No polishing. No waste. 🔥 In January 1959, it worked. The float glass process was licensed to manufacturers across the world. Over 40 companies. Over 30 countries. Today it accounts for over 90% of all flat glass production on Earth. Every window you have ever looked through in your entire life was almost certainly made using this single British process. Sir Alastair Pilkington was knighted in 1970. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1969. Made a life peer in 1995. Baron Pilkington of St Helens. He died the same year. Before he could take his seat in the House of Lords. A British man with an idea who changed every building on Earth. 🇬🇧 Be part of us - proudofus.co.uk Be proud of us. 🙏🇬🇧

A chocolate maker bought 120 acres of Birmingham slums. 🍫 His name was George Cadbury. He didn’t build a factory. He built a world. Every house had a garden. By law. Every single one. 🌿 Schools. Parks. Swimming pools. Cricket pitches. Pensions. Education during working hours. Workers’ committees that ran the factory floor. Then in 1900 he put the entire estate into a trust. 🏛️ It could never be sold for profit. Never broken up. Never privatised. Protected forever. It still exists today. Still run by the trust. One man proved that if you treat people well, they don’t just survive. They flourish. 🙏 Be part of us: proudofus.co.uk Be proud of us. 🇬🇧
