The academic study industrial complex is a sad sector. So many people who might otherwise be productive are participating in this often fraudulent machine, just churning out junk science after junk science. The incentives on all sides are totally whack. Publishers want fees, academics want noteriety and tenure. Nowhere in there is there a very strong incentive for truth and discipline. Just some tangential reputational incentive.

@PabloVidalRibas @450Movement Everyone wants to publish, no one wants to review. But I can also understand that few people are willing to do such a complex and time-consuming job for free. If journals don't start paying reviewers, the whole thing will slow down to a halt.

I am editor in a journal. The last time a reviewer accepted my invitation to review was June 29. Currently, I have a ms with 22 invitations (I´ve had more), none accepted. Is it just me? Am I the only one reviewing ms for everyone else? (And yes, I came here to complain)
