Earlier this month, President Donald Trump said he didn’t want Ukraine’s help with drone defense, saying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was the last person he’d turn to. But with the war in Iran continuing, countries in the Gulf have been lining up for Ukraine’s guidance on how to counter drones. Special correspondent @SimonOstrovsky reports from Ukraine.

Happy Victory Day in the Battle of Kyiv! On this very day, four years ago, Russian military officials and government representatives quietly, amid the deafening informational noise of the war, announced a “radical reduction of military activity on the Kyiv and Chernihiv axes.” In reality, what happened was exactly what had to happen: after five weeks of intense fighting on the northwestern and northeastern outskirts of Kyiv, against the backdrop of new Ukrainian strikes near Makariv, along the Zhytomyr highway, in Irpin (which had been fully liberated the day before), and earlier, the Russian defeat in Moshchun -- exhausted, depleted, and heavily battered, Russian forces began withdrawing back into Belarus to avoid further deterioration of an already dangerous situation for them. By March 31–April 1, the entire Kyiv region had been liberated, and the Ukrainian flag was once again raised over the Chornobyl zone. In the following days, Russian forces also cleared out of Sumy and Chernihiv regions, leaving behind vast scorched wastelands of burned equipment and bodies along Ukrainian roads and in the forests. And numerous executed civilians in mass graves and basements. This is how the first phase of the Russian invasion ended, in the complete failure of the blitzkrieg plan to seize Kyiv quickly and shockingly. Ahead lay a new nightmare: regrouping and a shift of the war’s focus to Donbas, the second phase of the war. And I remember that moment well: the news that would later be confirmed as the beginning of Russia’s withdrawal from the Kyiv area, I casually read it on my smartphone in a bar in central Kyiv. Right next to one of the military checkpoints on the street, the bar was operating at full capacity despite the total alcohol ban in the besieged city (and not shy about jacking prices up to the sky). And yes -- boy oh boy did I see quite a few top global media stars drinking there after a full day in wartime Kyiv, formally breaking the law right along with us.

😂😂😂 Absolute humiliation for Trump. A national security expert points out Trump is desperately trying to negotiate the exact same Iran nuclear deal he ripped up in 2018. The US literally went to war just to get back to the agreement they already had. Total incompetence.

A pair of Apaches flew low over Nashville’s No Kings protest today, which created quite a bit of buzz. Now, Kid Rock has posted video of two Apaches paying a visit to his home just north of downtown Nashville. What the heck???

Iran is launching large-scale information operations. Transparency & the truth should be democracies' biggest strategic advantage to counter authoritarian disinformation. But Trump's systematic lying is causing long-term damage to US resilience & defences against disinfo.

🚨 Iran is building a deadly trap on U.S. ground troops in the Strait of Hormuz — and they want America to walk right into it. Joe Kent (@joekent16jan19), former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, warns: “If I’m Iran right now, the greatest gift would be for U.S. Marines or paratroopers to seize any island in the Strait. I wouldn’t care which one — I’d let them land.” “Because once they’re there, I can turn them into hostages through mines, ballistic missiles, and drone swarms. It would be a strategic disaster.” Iran’s strategy is clear: “win by not losing.” Let U.S. forces land, bleed them slowly in lives and treasure, then wait for American political will to collapse — just like past Middle East quagmires. Joe Kent urges President Trump: “I hope President Trump is smart enough not to fall for this trap.” Public pressure on Congress is now critical to prevent another disaster. @GeoffyPJohnston @cbctom Hans Gudegast actually. This movie changed his name forever. He was pressured by Universal Studios head Lew Wasserman to change his German name to sound more American to secure the lead role in the 1970 film Colossus: The Forbin Project.

@cbctom Can't stream it in Canada for some reason. Apparently it was a box office failure but critics love the movie. The DVD is available on Amazon for 10 bucks.
