I understand the desire to make this dunk but the film is all but explicitly about how the U.S.'s amoral military behavior during its high-imperial era led irrevocably to its Trumpian self-destruction. Republicans have no reason to like it on thematic grounds.

Right wing culture really is in a nadir. The Odyssey has plenty of themes that would resonate with small-c conservatives - sacred tradition; home and rootedness; generational duty, etc. All ignored in favour of naked racial animus.

Funny that Nolan finally has a character look into the camera and say "I am the exact kind of liberal as Barack Obama" and still people struggle to accept that he has the same politics as almost everyone in his social milieu

The question of whether liberal norms such as pluralism can be self-enforcing permits different answers but is hardly trivial. In fact there's a guy with a new movie out who made a pretty good series of films about this involving a wealthy gentleman who dresses up as a bat

Of course the reality is that posing the question of the limits of tolerable disagreement on matters of value brings us up against fundamental and probably insoluble paradoxes of liberalism. The conservative Christian separatist colleges are more clear-eyed about this.
