Zara Larsson on Tate McRae comparisons and discourse that she should’ve headlined in latest ‘Call Her Daddy’ interview: “I’m older, and maybe some people felt like I deserve to [headline] and I’m like, ‘Well, buy the tickets then!’ That’s not Tate’s fault. I haven’t toured. For me, this was an amazing opportunity. I think it’s just the nature of how people speak about girls in pop again— like coming back to the f**king ‘Khia Asylum’, like, no one’s being put in there except for the pop girls […] I think we’re very similar in the sense that, you know, we both dance, although she’s a way better dancer. I do pop, and she does pop. It’s easier to root for someone who is, like, an ‘underdog.’ I kind of always said this: once you start getting haters, that’s when you know, you’re that b*tch. They love the come-up, and then the minute you’re there, they’re like, ‘What are you doing here?’ Tate is on a sold-out arena tour, and I’m opening for her. I think it’s just—we’re both talented, but people are like, ‘Why is Zara Larsson opening for Tate?’ It’s not about talent. It’s about me being put in front of a crowd where I haven’t been before. So it’s easy for people to compare us, even though we’re very different.”
