Today is the darkest day of my life. My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us. No words can describe the pain of a parent who must bid goodbye to his child. A son is not meant to leave before his father. This loss has shattered us in ways we are still trying to comprehend. I still remember the day Agni was born in Patna on 3 June, 1976. From a middle-class Bihari family, he grew into a man of strength, compassion, and purpose. The light of his mother’s life, a protective brother, a loyal friend, and a gentle soul who touched everyone he met. Agnivesh was many things - a sportsman, a musician, a leader. He studied at Mayo College, Ajmer, went on to set up one of the finest companies Fujeirah Gold, became Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, and earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Yet, beyond all titles and achievements, he remained simple, warm, and deeply human. To me, he was not just my son. He was my friend. My pride. My world. Kiran and I are broken. And yet, in our grief, we remind ourselves that the thousands of young people who work across Vedanta are also our children. Agnivesh believed deeply in building a self-reliant India. He would often say, “Papa, we lack nothing as a nation. Why should we ever be behind?” We shared a dream to ensure that no child sleeps hungry, no child is denied education, every woman stands on her own feet, and every young Indian has meaningful work. I had promised Agni that more than 75% of what we earn would be given back to society. Today, I renew that promise and resolve to live an even simpler life. There was so much life ahead of him. So many dreams yet to be lived. His absence leaves a void for his family and friends. We thank all his friends, colleagues and well-wishers for always being there for him. Beta, you will live on in our hearts, in our work, and in every life you touched. I do not know how to walk this path without you, but I will try carrying your light forward.

MY QUESTIONS on the Supreme Court’s Revised Order Regarding Stray Dogs 1. The Supreme Court has ruled that dogs must be vaccinated and dewormed, and then released back into the same localities where they were picked up from. My Questions: How exactly does a dog’s vaccination certificate protect a child from being bitten ,mauled or killed on the street? Are dogs expected to carefully read their medical file before deciding whether to bite or not? Does a rabies shot suddenly switch off both the hunger and the primal hunting instinct of dogs ? If deworming is the solution, was worm infestation the main reason, why children were being attacked or killed all these years? 2. Rabid or aggressive dogs must not be released, said the Supreme Court. My Questions: Do we have the infrastructure, manpower, and monies to test crores of street dogs for rabies? Who will track and record the mental health profile of each dog ?— Will there be psychiatrists provided ? Will something be created to measure the aggressiveness in dogs? If so who will be the one to decide which dog is how aggressive and on what basis ? Or will there be a committee? Will police teams be constituted to investigate the status and aggressiveness ? Suppose a dog attacks one moment , but wags its tail in the next moment — is it aggressive or friendly? Will a committee of lawyers, dog lovers, veterinarians and dog psychiatrists sit together to decide the emotional mood swings of each of the dogs? would thousands of special courts be formed to examine every accused dog before deciding whether to leave it back in it’s place or to do whatever with it ? 3. Supreme Court says , Feeding dogs in public places is prohibited. Feeding must only be done in designated areas. My Questions: Who decides the “designated areas”? and on what basis ? How will strays know about these designated areas? — Will specially designed Google Maps for dogs provide them directions? Which department will monitor feeding the dogs in thousands of cities , towns and villages? Municipal officials? Police? Or a new force called the “DOG POLICE”? How does one prevent the migration of dogs from one locality to another, when even state borders can’t stop humans? MY FINAL QUESTION How come there’s no mention of the dog attack victims , including that of even children being killed ? I sincerely hope the honourable Supreme Court will take this into consideration before passing the final order
