is this a troll company?
polsia backward is ai slop.
yes, we are definitely in an AI bubble.
Ben Cera@Bencera
Polsia just raised $30M at a $250M valuation. Approaching $10M annual run rate. One Founder + AI. Zero employees. Polsia runs companies autonomously. It also ran its own fundraising. I just showed up for signatures.

In the age of AI, the reader struggles because the writer doesn't have to.

eigenrobot@eigenrobot
asking people to read ai-generated text is offensive. this is not because ai text is intrinsically bad. rather, the author has not paid a cost to write the text himself. this cost is a credible signal he finds its communication important. so: not paying that cost is telling

Know about @TauriApps? It's an open-source framework for building cross-platform apps with a web frontend.
@RSirokov created a helpful template project for using Tauri + @Shadcnkit UI + PowerSync. Nice work!
Check it out: github.com/MrLightful/pow…

If you have a small problem, you have a problem forever. If you have a big problem, soon, you have no problem.
A friend told me this 15 years ago. And it is relevant now. I am very bullish for the future of software reliability.
We finally have a problem big enough to fix.

Mythos on Curl: Once my curl security team fellows and I had poked on the this short list for a number of hours and dug into the details, we had trimmed the list down and were left with one confirmed vulnerability. The other four were three false positives (they highlighted shortcomings that are documented in API documentation) and the fourth we deemed “just a bug”.
The single confirmed vulnerability is going to end up a severity low CVE planned to get published in sync with our pending next curl release 8.21.0 in late June.

React Native has a text problem.
You hand a string to a FlatList, and you find out where the words actually landed when the screen renders.
Need each row's height up front for proper virtualisation? Your only option is to render every row, measure it, then render it again.
Want a paragraph to wrap around a circular avatar, the kind of layout magazines have been doing since 1962? Sorry, text in React Native lives in rectangles.
And the bug list goes deeper. Italic text clipping has been broken since 2017. Android ellipsis truncation since 2018. `letterSpacing` straight up does not work.
𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 by Juba Kitiashvili (based on Cheng Lou's original Pretext) is the first library that takes the problem seriously.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮?
➡️ 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 — The "pre-text" pun is "pre-measure your text." Hand it a string, a style, and a max width. Get back the exact rendered height, in roughly 0.0002ms.
➡️ 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀 — iOS has been able to do this since TextKit shipped in 2013. React Native has been ignoring it ever since. Pretext finally brings it to mobile, with no Skia and no SVG tricks.
➡️ 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽-𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗴𝘀 — ``, ``, and `` collectively close eighteen-plus long-standing React Native rendering issues. Some of these have been open for nearly a decade.
➡️ 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀 — Streaming AI text, pinch-to-zoom that recomputes layout per frame, typewriter animations, collapsible text, and a `useFlashListHeights` that pre-warms a height cache so virtualisation just works.
React Native devs have been writing measurement workarounds for so long that most of us forgot it was a workaround. Pretext is the rare library that doesn't add a feature, it removes a category of pain.
For the deeper breakdown, including how the magazine-style layout actually works and which exact bugs `` closes, it's covered in React Native Rewind #39:

@VictorTaelin you should dictate more, makes it a way smaller problem

seriously, working with AI is MISERABLE for one and only one reason: having to re-explain the same thing
"oh yeah this new session obviously doesn't know what proper case trees are, so let me explain it for the 5000th time in my life"
I'm tired
AGENTS.md doesn't solve this because it is impossible to fit the entire domain knowledge without nuking the context - it would be 1m+ tokens worth
RAGs don't solve this, the agent won't search unknown unknowns
SKILLs don't solve this unless I keep like a collection of 1750 skills with specific cuts of domain knowledge for each possible subset of my domain that I might need in a given chat, but that's a lot of manual work
recursive LLMs or whatever don't solve this for the same reason, you can't dump a domain book and expect the AGENT will magically guess that it is supposed to search for a specific bit knowledge. unknown unknowns
fine tuning doesn't solve this (OSS models suck and OpenAI / Anthropic gave up on user fine tuning)
I honestly think a good product around fine tuning on your domain would be a major hit and an underdog lab should take this opportunity
