Software developer — builds software/apps Software engineer — designs and builds software systems Website developer — builds websites/web apps Developer — broad term for someone who creates digital products Programmer — writes code/instructions for computers People mix these up all the time, but they’re not exactly the same. And I’m tired of seeing website developers calling themselves software engineers and Wordpress designers calling themselves software developers 😒

@md_kasif_uddin I'm split between AI/ML and system design. I'd pick any from these two.

Which skill matters most for getting a job in 2026 ?

@hsprafrique This is what tells the difference between the average developer and senior engineers. Details and not code.

The backend that handles 100 users is a completely different engineering problem than the backend that handles 100,000. Same product. Same code sometimes. Completely different architecture conversation. Most developers find this out in production. Senior engineers design for it before writing line one.

@chris_adeyinka @webdesignerng That wouldn't cause too much hassle. Although security would pose some concerns, but it's another huddle that I believe would get fixed using non-technical solutions with time.

@maigari_david @webdesignerng same here too. But you still need developers to do it for you. What about the backend and database ? Yes , AI can do it but it still needs someone that has coding understanding to make it work perfectly.

@therahul4402 There are already becoming architects. It's advisable to learn to become an architect than being a vibe coder.
