@mallan_droid @dwdavison @WireRacing All Hamas had to do to stop the war was release the hostages *that they took*. That’s what finally happened, too late to save many civilians that they imperiled.

@JamesWilli83381 @dwdavison @WireRacing Good to know liberals still blame *Hamas* for a genocide that *Israel* is committing. Frankly I was much too nice to you suggesting you should blow your own brains out. Rot in piss you cunt

@HBendaas @dwdavison you people accuse others of being tokens is just admission that you’re doing it yourself, you can’t stand that a lot of black people aren’t on your side because they think for themselves and rightfully think you people are full of shit

@dwdavison @WireRacing Calling it a genocide is just language games. The better way to phrase it is excessive force. I think it was a really good debate on both sides.

@maxwinga Giving misanthropic Silicon Valley hucksters ungoverned power over these AI models is where unwieldy agentic models can really go amuck. But you are just as much a part of the con as the Altmans of the world by trying to pitch this absolute fucking fantasy of super AGI.

@mallan_droid The singular focus of my work is to get an international coalition to prohibit anyone from building superintelligent AI.

This was hyped as the final exposé on the AI bubble, but then... - 3x revenue from '24-25 - '25 cost of $13B revenue was $7.5B + ops and ads - then $20B in R&D I'm no OpenAI shill, but this seems completely fine for them? They're nearly profitable and racing hard to ASI which would be far more valuable. Uber wasn't profitable for over a decade. If they were making far far less than cost then maybe this fits Ed's narrative, but I really just don't see it. The bet is clearly on ASI, which poses an extinction risk, but if they avoid that somehow, would automate ~all labor and be the most valuable thing on the planet. This is what their investors are betting on too, but Ed basically refuses to acknowledge even the existence of this bet in his latest interview with Chris Hayes because he categorically rejects ASI as even a possibility. Back in the real world, the four star general leading the NSA and Pentagon Cyber Command just said Mythos hacked "almost all of their classified systems not in weeks, but in hours".
Ed Zitron@edzitron

Exclusive: I have seen OpenAI's audited financials for 2024 and 2025. In 2025, OpenAI had $13.07 billion in revenue and $34 billion in costs. $867 million of its revenue came from SoftBank, and $303 million came from Microsoft. wheresyoured.at/exclusive-open…

@maxwinga Listen, I'm well aware that AI safety is a legitimate topic, but for precisely the OPPOSITE reasons that you are trying to convey. We need to worry about AI being extremely unintelligent!

@microsamonomics What the fuck are you talking about you dumbass, you are so far out in left field in your own ostensible profession if you don’t recognize the objectively favorable impact labor unions had on working class conditions. Do you not know how to read?

@mallan_droid At no point in American history were more than half of workers members of a union, so it's never been a majority view. I'm not getting bullied. 🤷🏼

I don't understand this intense punching down (down the quote tweet path). And by anon accounts. It's just a self-righteous EJMR, and apparently that's ok, because he... thinks Harvard grad students are privileged and/or doesn't like unions?

Idk how I would advise him to write a persuasive CV, but if you read the blog posts, Wikipedia articles, and his X.com presence etc -- it is very clear that Decker is quite talented.

@captgouda24 @Tyler_Menzer @danwaterfield By all means, feel free to be a quasi-academic monastic cuck the rest of your life, but no need to throw a tantrum when self-respecting actual graduate students decide to freely negotiate with the Larry Summers’ of the world

@Tyler_Menzer @danwaterfield It’s part of a process to make it in somewhere. I’m not doing anything to make money. It just doesn’t matter to me, I want to write things that I like and that’s all.

@ashdgandhi Clearly the real issue is that they’re giving out PhD’s to morons if you have to describe $50K a year in the most obtuse way possible

The heart if this debate is not $ but whether doing a PhD at Harvard is a "job" rather than education/training. In my opinion/experience, it is very hard to rationalize social sciences and humanities PhD programs as a job. (The case is much stronger for some sciences, however.)
Ashvin Gandhi@ashdgandhi

I'm a former Harvard PhD student. Based on my experience, current social science students probably make a bit over $250k + healthcare over 5 years, with just 784 hours of required TA work. That's almost $320/hour for the "work" and the rest is classes and your own research.
