A concise summary. No thinking person can fail to see the reality of the absolute necessity for Australia to take action on climate change. We have wasted far too much time.

#Birds What do you think about this? British-owned beef giant CPC has been granted a permit to poison and kill 20,000 native galahs and little corellas at one of their vast cattle stations in the NT, Australia. In its permit application, CPC admits its practices created the problem: “grain production, on-site storage, and cattle feeding have provided an artificial food source.” Ornithologist Dr Lilleyman was "shocked" to learn of the NT government's decision to grant the permit. She said that Birdlife Australia is concerned about the potential for secondary poisoning of non-target species occurring close to "an internationally significant wetland". CPC has ten cattle stations on about 9 million acres. They supply cattle and beef to Asian markets, domestic feedlots and processors, and export live cattle. The company is owned by Guy and Julia Hands through the Hands Family Office. They live in Guernsey after leaving England to avoid UK tax. CPC has also applied for massive water licenses for irrigation projects to grow grain sorghum and other crops which will inevitably attract even more birds. So what happens then? Even wider-scale poisoning of native wildlife?

Booing at the Dawn Service on ANZAC Day during the Acknowledgement of Country is not only disrespectful of First Nations people it is disrespectful of all those who fought for our country - including my father. He would have been appalled.

This morning, Australians have come together at dawn services right across our country to mark Anzac Day. Today is a moment to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served in our name, and to acknowledge those who continue to serve our nation. It was a real privilege to stand with my community in Clayton for a moving dawn service hosted by the Clayton RSL. Lest we forget.

In a small neighborhood park, there’s a massive Maine Coon everyone calls Capitán. For five years, he’s ruled that little patch of green like a quiet king. Not aggressive. Not loud. Just steady. Watching from his favorite bench like a gentle guardian of the block. Then one day, a tiny white kitten appeared. He was beautiful. Fragile. And something wasn’t right. He kept bumping into benches. Planters. Curbs. He didn’t flinch at sudden movements. He didn’t track sound the way kittens do. It didn’t take long for the neighbors to realize the truth. The kitten was blind. Out there alone, he wouldn’t have lasted long. But he wasn’t alone for long. Because Capitán noticed. From that day on, the big Maine Coon never left his side. He started walking slightly ahead, slowing his long, powerful strides so the kitten could brush against his thick fur and follow. Like a living guide rope. When neighbors set out food, Capitán gently nudged him toward the bowls. When they crossed the sidewalk, he adjusted his pace. When they rested on their favorite bench, Capitán curled his massive body around the kitten like a shield. And when it rained? He made sure the kitten was safely tucked under the planter first. Only then would he settle in beside him. A local veterinarian later confirmed it. The little one was born blind. She said without Capitán, he wouldn’t have survived even a week outdoors. He wouldn’t have found food. He wouldn’t have avoided danger. Some neighbors offered to adopt the kitten. But every time they tried separating them, both cats cried endlessly. So the community made a decision. They kept them together. Now their bowls sit side by side. The neighborhood looks out for them daily. And Capitán still walks just ahead, with a tiny white shadow brushing against his fur. Because sometimes family isn’t about where you come from. Sometimes it’s about who slows down for you. Who shields you. Who chooses to guide you when you cannot see the way. And sometimes… the strongest hearts wear fur. 🐾

“He had just delivered the final verdict in a horrific animal cruelty case. But he couldn't go back to his chambers until he visited the one victim who wasn't in the courtroom. Judge Martin Wallace was a 30-year veteran of the bench. He was known for being stern, fair, and almost impossible to rattle. But the case of "Finn" had kept him awake at night. It wasn't just neglect; it was a deliberate, malicious act. The dog had been found chained in an empty apartment after neighbors reported a smell. He had been left with no food or water for weeks. The evidence photos of the emaciated animal were something Judge Wallace couldn't shake. Today, he had delivered the verdict, sentencing the dog's abuser to the maximum penalty allowed, his voice booming with cold anger in the courtroom. But as he slammed his gavel, he felt no victory. He just felt the crushing weight of the dog's suffering. He didn't go to his chambers. He didn't even take off his robes. He walked past his stunned staff and drove his own car to the county animal shelter. A vet tech met him at the door. "He's very weak, Your Honor," she warned. "And he's terrified of everyone. We haven't been able to get him to respond to much." She led him to the medical ward. Judge Wallace looked into the kennel and saw a frail, skeletal pit bull, who just stared blankly at the wall. The judge unhooked the kennel door and slowly knelt on the concrete floor. "Hey, buddy," he said softly. "I'm Martin. I'm the one who... I'm the one who heard your story." The dog, who hadn't moved for anyone, slowly turned his head. He shakily got to his feet, all ribs and bones, and took a wobbly step forward. Then, to the vet's astonishment, the dog crept into the judge's lap, let out a long sigh, and began to gently lick the tears from his face. "Oh my... he can't get enough of you," the vet tech whispered. Judge Wallace, the toughest man in the courthouse, wrapped his arms around the frail dog, his voice thick with emotion. "I can't get enough of him, either. Look at this face." He buried his face in the dog's neck, not caring about the robe. "You're safe now, pal," he choked out. "You're all right. It's all over." Judge Wallace visited Finn every week during his recovery. Two months later, Finn was finally cleared for adoption. The shelter was flooded with offers, but they all knew there was only one person he was going home with. Judge Wallace signed the final papers, and the dog who had been left for dead walked out the front door, right into his new life.” Credit: Melissa Houska

Nine-year-old Tiernan McCready was walking home from football in Derry when he saw something that didn’t feel right. Nearby, three men were trying to force an 18-year-old girl into a van. Most people would have frozen in fear. Tiernan didn’t. Even though he was scared, the young boy started shouting and ran closer to the scene, drawing attention to what was happening. The sudden noise and interruption caused the men to panic and flee. The girl was able to escape. Tiernan then helped her get to safety and alerted his mother so the police could be called. Later, Tiernan admitted he had been frightened the entire time, but said he knew he could not just stand there and do nothing. Police praised the boy’s quick thinking and courage, saying his actions may have prevented a much more serious outcome. To recognize what he did, officers presented Tiernan with a badge of bravery. Despite the attention, the young boy remained humble and said he hopes to become a police officer one day so he can continue helping people. Sometimes the biggest acts of courage come from the smallest heroes.

I'M 75 AND ADOPTED A DOG I FOUND TIED UNDER A BRIDGE IN THE SNOW. I'll never forget that cold winter morning. I was walking near the river when I saw her—shivering, scared, and tied to a post under the bridge. Snow was falling heavily, and she was barely covered, her little body trembling with cold. Who could do something so cruel? I untied her and wrapped her in my coat, her eyes filled with fear but also hope. It broke my heart to think she had been abandoned in such a heartless way. How could anyone throw away such love? I took her home, gave her food, warmth, and a name—Maggie. Despite everything she's been through, she's the most loving, gentle soul. At 75, I wasn't sure if I could take on another dog, but Maggie has brought so much light and joy into my life. She's my little miracle, and I'll make sure she never feels cold or alone again.❄️🐶✨

An actor who has given millions to support animals is now being recognized on a global stage. Ricky Gervais has been awarded the Jane Goodall Award for his ongoing efforts to stand up for animals and call out cruelty worldwide. Using his platform, he’s brought attention to issues like animal testing, fur farming, and trophy hunting—while also supporting charities and funding real change. Inspired by Jane Goodall’s legacy, the award honors those deeply committed to protecting animals and the planet. Supporters say this moment shows the impact of using influence for good—and how one voice can help spark global awareness. Because real advocacy isn’t just words—it’s action.

Too on point not to share, “Aussie reply to Trump rant about NATO not being there for us. Mate. You run a country with 600,000 homeless people sleeping on the street tonight. A country where 40% of adults can't cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. A country where women are dying in hospital car parks because doctors are too scared of abortion laws to treat a miscarriage. You lock up more of your own citizens than any nation on earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The land of the free has 2 million people in cages, and a quarter of them haven't even been convicted of anything. They're just too poor to make bail. Your life expectancy is going backwards. You're the only developed nation where that's happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba's. Your kids do active shooter drills between maths and English while you sell the gunmaker's stock to your mates. Your minimum wage hasn't moved in 15 years. You've got teachers working 2 jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that didn't attack you. And you’ve got a convicted felon, adjudicating raping, paedophile protecting, porn star shagging insurrectionist running the biggest dumpster fire war campaign since the Taliban thanked you very much for losing again. And you're calling Greenland poorly run? Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no. "NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years. And you pulled out at 2am without telling anyone and left them to deal with the mess. So maybe before you start calling other countries poorly run, have a look at your own backyard, you spray-tanned aluminium siding salesman. The only thing poorly run in this picture is your fucking mouth. Credit (borrowed from) Jim Scroggins - original author 📷 unknown”
