@TonyLeonSA You say “woke” as if it’s derogatory. To “awake” and see how cruelly society abuses most for the benefit of a few is to start regaining humanity and empathy. Being “ woke” means being a better human being. You should try it within yourself sometime.

One of the reasons why so many just avoid the subject in South Africa, if you don't follow the correct dogma, it's implied you are racist or a bigot. I've not even taken sides, just taken umbrage & what I believe is unhelpful/unsophisticated language around a complex situation.

@mamlisa I'm not taking a side, I'm just pointing out logical fallacies and issues with arguments. Unlike you I haver actual Palestinian friends, some who live in Isreal, and others who live in the UAE and America. Their opinions are varied, as you'd expect.

Absolutely. Which is why I always find shouts of "apartheid Israel" disingenuous. Apartheid was a crime against humanity, but it was hardly complicated, no 1000+ years or history. Palestinians live in Israel and are free to worship, marry travel, and vote. Not the same.

Partisans agree the Middle East is simple. I’ve had students tell me it’s very simple (Israel bad). It’s fan service. As for what she says, It’s both Jewish and Arab land, historically. Zionism and emigration started long before the Holocaust. And so on. History is complicated.
