According to official correspondence from the Director of Public Prosecutions, dated 6 March 2026 in response to an inquiry, Khawula faces charges in the Vredenburg Magistrates’ Court (CAS 35/03/2022) for the alleged murder of his former boyfriend, Wandile Khambule. The NPA letter states that Khawula was released on bail following an initial court appearance but failed to attend proceedings on 28 January 2025. A warrant of arrest was issued that day, and his bail was formally forfeited on 11 February 2025. The matter had been enrolled for plea and trial on 30 May 2024 but was postponed multiple times to allow Khawula to secure new legal representation. Despite these opportunities, he has not appeared in court since early 2025 and “is still at large,” the NPA confirmed.
