@chris_teal @Seoirse_ They already use AI to help identify fraudulent transactions. Thats been going on for years. This is no change to that.

@mangowhizz @Seoirse_ As they are using AI to determine what gets held and what goes through expect a massive shit show of false positives.

I don’t want to believe it, but the Centrist Dad criticism of the last government – they were incompetent because they were all immensely thick – does provide a parsimonious explanation for e.g. this:

@__Nonsensical @s8mb Yep, UK ISPs are required by law to retain information on domains visited and provide it to law enforcement and other government agencies on request. That ‘s been the case for years.

@s8mb That's a odd argument, given that without an VPN, your ISP, and in many cases your government, can record all of your internet use.

The sad thing here is that the Technology Secretary doesn’t know an actual reason not to use a VPN, which is that they see and can record all of your internet use. (Which is itself a reason this law is so terrible.)

@LukeDyks @shawncbrown Well tbf, the law applies to service providers, not individuals. So there is not any law to actually get around from a strictly legal perspective. But I certainly agree it’s a stupid badly drafted law that will only have negative side-effects on a few different levels!

@LukeDyks @shawncbrown The problem is not people using VPNs – in an ideal world everyone would be doing that tbh. It’s that most of them will be using really shitty free ones that will quite happily sell their data straight to the FSB.
