“Don’t let them break you.” After my arrest in the summer of 2022 on a (now stayed) breach charge, I spent a couple of days at the Medicine Hat Remand Center before being transported to Calgary to be flown back to Ottawa. The sheriff’s who drove me from Medicine Hat to Bassano were full of excited questions about the Event That Shall Not Be Named. We had a good visit. When we arrived at the RCMP station in Bassano to meet the Calgary Sheriff I asked the driver if I could use the washroom. He walked me inside and kindly removed my handcuffs. As we were walking back out to the vehicle he wished me luck with everything and said “Don’t let them break you”. “I promise you I won’t, sir” I replied. And I thanked him for being kind to me. There are so many truly wonderful men and women in law enforcement and corrections that don’t get the recognition and appreciation they should, often getting lumped in with the bad apples. I will be forever grateful for the many kindnesses that were shown to me. 🙏🏼❤️🇨🇦
