Vernon Benele Mwamuka; one of the first few black pioneer architects. His work includes some legends attached. Born on January 12, 1955, at Bonda Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe, would go on to become a trailblazer in his field. He began his education at Vengere Primary School in Rusape and later attended St. Augustine’s Mission in Penhalonga for his secondary schooling. His academic brilliance was evident early on, as he excelled in his A-levels, achieving top grades in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. This academic success set the stage for his future in architecture. In 1975, Mwamuka briefly enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe. However, he soon earned a scholarship to study architecture at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Graduating in 1978, he furthered his studies with a post-graduate diploma in architecture in London. His time abroad not only honed his architectural skills but also broadened his perspective, preparing him to make significant contributions upon his return to Zimbabwe. Career and Architectural Legacy Mwamuka returned to Zimbabwe in 1981, eager to contribute to his newly independent nation. He initially joined the Ministry of Construction before moving into the private sector, where he joined Harvey Buff Architects. His talent quickly propelled him through the ranks, and he eventually became a senior partner. Under his influence, the firm was rebranded as Mwamuka Mercuri & Associates, reflecting his growing influence in the architectural community.

@Savheya_Happie I can relate, I learnt this th hard way. A property developer approached me once. They wantd to develop cluster houses in Hatfield. I dd th preliminary layout designs, sent a quote thy went silent. Afta 6 months I saw my concept being implemented. As we speak they are nw selling

On a Serious note, I am not happy with what these High net individuals did to me. They lack professionalism. They approached me with land which was idle for years. I went for a site visit, did our market survey, did our high level designs for a shopping mall and medical center, high level cost estimates, tenant procurement, investment appraisal and scenario analysis, risk profiling and project packaging. We present the projects and recommendations. He chose shopping mall. We agreed to sign agreements. We sent our first draft to him. He went mute. 3 months down the line earthworks are being carried out onsite with all white consultants and contractors without our knowledge😭 he is white by the way.
