16-year-old girl's report leads to a rescue operation in Lagos Island A 16-year-old girl reported herself at a police station, alleging that she was being forced into prostitution and subjected to maltreatment in a hotel in Lagos Island. Following her report, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai lead a team to the hotel where the girl and about 30 other underage girls were reportedly being exploited for prostitution. The owner of the hotel was not found during the operation. However, about 12 of the girls were rescued and taken into protective police custody. The woman who allegedly brought the 16-year-old girl to Lagos was later arrested. Investigations revealed that the girl had been brought to the city without being informed that she would be forced into prostitution.
