Vi un video donde un chico esperó horas bajo la lluvia para sorprender a su novia a la salida del trabajo. Llevaba flores, su comida favorita y una carta que había escrito esa misma mañana. Cuando ella salió, lo vio empapado y dijo: “¿Por qué no me avisaste? Me hubiera arreglado más.” Él sonrió, tratando de no hacerlo incómodo. Le dio las flores y la comida… pero ella seguía molesta. Durante el camino, apenas hablaron. Él intentaba hacer chistes, pero ella solo respondía con monosílabos. La carta nunca la abrió. Y eso me hizo pensar en algo. A veces el problema no es lo que haces… es que la otra persona está tan enfocada en cómo se ve todo, que no alcanza a sentir lo que hay detrás.

Transient shapers are one of the most underused tools in mixing. Most people who have them use them to make drums punchier. That's maybe 20% of what they can do. Try this on room mics: cut the attack, boost the sustain. You get a room sound that feels enormous without washing out the kit. Try it on acoustic guitar: cut the sustain slightly. Suddenly the strums have space between them and the chord ring doesn't blur. Try it on synth pads: boost attack by just a touch. The pad goes from blurry to defined without EQ or compression. Try it on vocals: cut the attack a little. You fight with sharp consonants without squashing the vocals with compression. Transient shapers work on texture too, not just for punch. Start thinking of them that way.
