Martin Romualdez did what Sara Duterte refused to do — face the accusations thrown against him One simple question! What do they really have against Martin Romualdez after dragging his name for weeks? Well, I must agree with the statement of the former Speaker today: “At the end of the day — it is evidence, not political noise”. Well… the witness of Dante Marcoleta was not corroborated. In fact! It was disputed. Aside from co-workers saying he was not assigned to Zaldy Co, there’s also the fact that one of the residences he claimed is under renovation and it can easily be proven. Let us not forget the fake notary which Marcoleta attempted to normalize. I will say it as it is — just to make a point here! The argument of whether or not insertions are good and bad especially for parochial concerns is beside the point. What we have learned from the public hearings conducted was… there’s a system that goes beyond budget allocations. For all we know, 300+ congressmen + X number of Senators presumed regularity —- how else will us know about the Byrce Hernandez, Henry Alcantara and Bernardo formula? With just the discussion of the budget on the floor and what was submitted in the document. To think!  Martin Romualdez was not even a part of the bicameral conference committee! If the reports are true, there’s an even smaller bicam —- it was just between Zaldy Co and Chiz Escudero. If you are going to be objective, they have nothing concrete against Martin Romualdez right now but the man stepped down to ensure that the ICI can do its duty to investigate — he did not throw punches or unsubstantiate claims against anyone and he faced all the accusations head on. Sorry, pero di ko kinaya ang mga "explanation of vote" ng senadong ito. With a few exceptions (Tito Sen in particular stands out for his good sense and clarity) umapaw ang hypocrisy, flawed logic, at simpleng kaduwagan. I never thought I'd see a Senate this shameful. Sad to see.

Filipinos trust Martin Romualdez more than Chiz Escudero and Sara Zimmerman Duterte I cannot remember a time when the Speaker of the House has a better trust rating than the Senate President — unsurprisingly so, because for all intents and purposes the Speaker is a congressman with local constituency while the other has votes nationwide. If you ask me, this recognition is long overdue. Well, in the 19th Congress, the House of Representatives really outperformed the Senate on all fronts — from the priority legislation of the administration, the hearings/ investigations and the over-all performance per se. The 19th Congress ended with 700+ pieces of legislation approved by the House in third reading but still pending in the Senate, this includes crucial ones like the National Land Use Act, Motorcycle for Hire Act among others. I now challenge the Senate to outperform the House of Representatives led by one Martin Romualdez! The survey was conducted in a period before the Supreme Court ruling, this was also the time when the House was asserting the constitutionality of the impeachment case against Sara Duterte. The challenge now is to prove that the ruling was based on erroneous facts — in ways the public would understand. This is consistent with the recent survey saying that 80% of Filipinos want Sara Zimmerman Duterte to face the impeachment trial. I guess, the Senate President is now feeling the after-effect of siding with the accused — all the delays and statements which seemed as though in favor of a no-trial scenario. Well, I am anticipating a better trust survey ratings for the President and the Speaker of the House in the coming weeks.
