Just had a pizza in Madagascar, and we’re all stumped (literally) at what species this wooden board might have come from. Quite heavy and hard. Possibly a palm? No rings, but a fibrous structure. Any ideas?

Ducts/canals in wood! Did you know Rutaceae naturally never have ducts, only cavities. However, if these plants undergo an injury, the can form traumatic ducts which produce gum, a putative defense mechanism (yet to be proved). Balfourodendron riedelinum.
