@designedbyabin Thanks for the detailed feedback. We're also always looking for ways to make multi-tasking on Windows better so I'll take these scenarios back to our design team to consider. Appreciate you taking the time to share 🙏

There are so many app windows on my desktop. When I had a MacBook - I would just switch desktop on my laptop frequently - while I have a single desktop on my External Monitor. Let's say I'm watching a lecture video on the external monitor. I can switch between OneNote, Edge, ChatGPT on my Laptop desktop without getting rid of the Lecture video in my external monitor. My younger brother had a Windows Laptop and he switched to macOS and he multitasks more on his MacBook than he ever did on his Windows. My youngest brother switched to macOS from iPad and he multi-tasks a lot now with multiple windows and apps open. It's a mess - but macOS makes managing that mess easier by reducing your mental load.

@designedbyabin What are your most important scenarios for using the 2 virtual desktop setup, as opposed to when one desktop extended across two monitors works best?

Thanks. ✨ When I switch Desktop on the external monitor (while my cursor is in the external monitor), it also switches the desktop on my Laptop. Desktop 1 on Laptop is attached to Desktop 1 on the external monitor. Desktop 2 on Laptop is attached to Desktop 2 on the external monitor. It just disturbs the flow of multitasking. There is too much Mental overload to just do multi-tasking. Maybe a lot of Windows users prefer the current setup. But give the multi-tasking behaviour similar to macOS as an option at least.

@designedbyabin Thanks again for the detailed feedback! We are always looking for ways to improve the touch experience for Windows tablets & 2-in-1s. What kind of tablet do you use and what's the screen size?

The Taskbar is too cluttered. Which makes using Windows in tablets a chore. There is different gestures/entry point for Widgets, Start, Search, Action Centre, Notifications. If you could put Notifications and Widgets inside Start - that's 2 things less users have to learn. If you merge Action Centre and the Time flyout on the right side into one - users can reduce learning 2 things. If this gets implemented - tablet users could just learn 2 gestures (swipe right for Start & swipe left for Action Centre). Then you can implement swipe up like in iOS, iPadOS & Android for Task View. It's about respecting User's existing Mental Models. Help people to learn Windows. When Notification, Widgets and Apps can be accessed from Start - users need to know the entry point into the operating System. Bringing the Start label will do just that. If you look into the history of Windows, there was a reason why the decided to put the 'Start' label in the Start button. Design should be Functional - not just mere aesthetics & visuals & ui. If Microsoft can simplify this navigation - it could setup Windows for a future in Tablets and Mobile landscape. Android PC OS(with its app catalogue) is coming after Windows' low-end tablet and laptop market. MacBook Neo is targeting the mid-range and gaming market of Windows. SteamOS, Steam Machine & Steam Frame is coming after Windows' Gaming market. Windows needs to win at least in Usability to stay relevant. Also, add a Full-Screen button in the Title Bar. Tablet users need this. Bring back a Tablet mode as well.

@marchr The biggest problem with multi-tasking is this: (Most students, tutors and professors in my UNI now use macOS instead of Windows. It wasn't like that 5 years ago.) Feedback Hub link: aka.ms/AAxkt38

@designedbyabin Thanks for the feedback Abin! Can you tell me what problems you're having with the current taskbar, start menu, and the location of widgets & notifications? Also would love to know what isn't working about Windows multitasking for you?

Simplify the Taskbar. Simplify the Start Menu. Bring back the 'Start' label. Put Widgets and Notifications in the Start Menu. And finally, Fix Multi-Tasking. I can't wrap my head around the fact that macOS is better at multi-tasking than Windows! (It's about Usability.) Bring back Windows Usability Labs from the Windows 95 & XP era. Build Windows for Humans not just AI Agents. Get user feedback early using Windows Usability Labs before even rolling it out to Insiders.
