I told my friends to enjoy the D4 Night Market tonight. The weather is beautiful, and it’s great to see people coming out to the Sunset. I just got back and saw that recalled Supervisor Joel Engardio posted an hour ago. After Joel Engardio, the word "joy" just doesn’t mean the same thing anymore.

Nice to see Sunset Dunes mentioned as a reason why San Francisco’s Outer Sunset is flourishing. A year ago, we only heard a doomsday narrative of traffic “carmageddon” and plummeting property values. The boogeyman never came. Now we can enjoy the benefits of our new coastal park — and focus our energy on the real life and death issues we face. It’s time to stop arguing about an eroding road and a popular park that hasn’t caused any harm when we need to protect our immigrant community, address affordability, and save democracy. And yes, affordability includes building more housing in the Sunset that keeps our families and workers here while welcoming new people and immigrants. There’s no reason to keep fighting over a park and a road when the park is popular and traffic is fine. It’s time to focus on more pressing issues like affordability, protecting our immigrant community, and everything else that has the world on fire. It’s time to consider Sunset Dunes settled. The feared “carmageddon” never came but the park’s benefits are real. Sunset Dunes is good for the environment, local businesses, and the well-being of everyone enjoying their coast. @SelenaC10705 Boost attendance? The Great Highway was full of people on bikes, skates, strolling, chilling. Walk around Lake Merced with the roaring car noise. The Great Highway is an oasis of peace. You should try it.

What Lucas Lux isn’t disclosing in his post is that he’s paying the senior dance group to practice on the closed Great Highway to boost attendance. San Francisco is a small city, we talk, and nothing stays secret. I don’t blame the seniors for accepting his financial support. They need the money. Lucas Lux is being dishonest and has a pattern of taking advantage of vulnerable communities through lies, manipulation, and money.

🤣 Friends of Closed Road backtracking here. Now saying this is a matter of space, but Lucas Lux made it clear that this is not a 1st come 1st served situation. It's an "are you one of us" situation. So, it's not a Town Hall, it's a lobbying event.

Only people handpicked by Lucas Lux received the D4 town hall location. Word in D4 is that it may be at Black Bird Bookstore & Café, 4541 Irving St, San Francisco, CA 94122. Lucas Lux recently criticizes @alankennywong for “closed-door meetings,” yet has no problem operating in secrecy himself. Tomorrow’s town hall information should not be withheld from the D4 community. What is there for Lucas Lux to hide?

Another ballot measure on Sunset Dunes will not heal, help, or solve anything. It will only cause harm by taking away all the benefits the park is delivering for the environment, the local economy, and the physical and mental health of everyone enjoying more access to their coast. When everything about Sunset Dunes is positive, we should reject putting it back on the ballot as a political wedge issue.  San Francisco will only realize its full potential if we do bold and positive things like create Sunset Dunes and build the housing our kids and grandkids will need to stay here. The park is popular, traffic is fine, and before long a majority everywhere will see how Sunset Dunes is good for the environment, local businesses, and the well-being of people experiencing the coast in new ways. The Great Highway lost its greatest utility as a direct connection to Daly City when the southern section fell into the ocean due to extreme coastal erosion. Traffic had to divert inland no matter what. Sunset Dunes is the best outcome for this situation, given the middle section of the Great Highway never had access ramps for cars. And the Great Highway remains open to cars 24/7 on the most crucial northern section that connects the Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods. Everyone can still get where they need to go. Traffic studies show minimal impact, while the benefits of the park are proving to be immense. The future of the Great Highway was put to citywide vote twice already in 2022 and 2024, and we should consider Sunset Dunes settled. The coast belongs to all San Franciscans and everyone had a say about what to do with their coast in the most open and democratic process possible. San Francisco cannot be the most progressive city that fears change. Let’s be the most progressive city that improves the lives of our residents by embracing the future.
