How can a nation with up to 3m registered youth players only manage 145 international exports.

@loggolfs I say yes, but once you do it from further up tees you move back. And create the next “breaking 80” goal. Congrats shooting in the 70s is a fun feeling

@loggolfs Curiosity, do you consider breaking 80 real if not done from the tips or playing from the appropriate tees for your age. Break 80 from the front, you did, but have you truly broken 80 until you do so from the tips?

just broke 80 for the first time, but course rating is 69 and it’s par 71 .. does this count?

@PaulSpacey It’s a combination of if we had the proper development and technical skills teaching to the youth, AND with the amount of athletes that are in the US, that the US could be dominate. Athletes alone don’t do it. But both applied, US could be a top team in the world

@PaulSpacey Completely agree! Maybe I misunderstood the original point. But my point is if America cared more and actually grew soccer to its biggest sport, the US would have the athletic pool to put together a world class national team. But we choose to direct that to football/basketball.

USMNT player Alex Freeman is the son of an NFL WR with incredible genetics. He is the *athlete* you keep talking about. He is a good professional soccer player but not world class because the bar for this global sport is so high.

@PaulSpacey Agreed, don’t have the infrastructure in place having soccer as the top sport with academies and dev prgm like Europe, would you not expect a a result similar to Europeans putting the same effort into sports like basketball. I’d think the US would then develop world class players

@PaulSpacey I am genuinely curious as to why you don’t think the US, with the population, and high volume of professional athletes (nfl, nba, etc. who come to the US to compete at the highest level) wouldn’t be a top team if we theoretically focused it on soccer like the rest of the world?

@PaulSpacey No counterpoint? In no way saying every player would be better than players like Messi, Neymar etc. but to actually think if USA, one of the largest countries in the world, didn’t focus its athletics into soccer that we wouldn’t be a top team in the world 🤦‍♂️😭 simple numbers game

@PaulSpacey I get he’s not world class. But you are taking an example of 1 nfl players son who is on a NATIONAL team. Now if every single son of an nfl star played soccer, you’d find thousands more of these situations/athletes and probably hundreds of those kids would become even better.

@SignalGradient @SchlossmanGF That’s laughable. College programs yes, that take players from the world. But youth programs through high school, Minnesotas top 15 high school teams would all easily beat a team of the best players of Colorado. And there is plenty of elite talent spread around another 30 teams

@PaulSpacey @RealKingArthur5 And he is one son of a player. And is on a national team. Exactly the point. He’s a son of a former pro and plays in the World Cup. Just a single case. Now say there are 10,000 of this same situation. Freeman might be the 5,000 best player not top 11.

@RealKingArthur5 He started playing age 7 and came through the academy development system. - he’s an athlete - he started early - he played for an academy But the global standard is ridiculous at the top level.

Serious question: If today we banned every single male athlete in the U.S. from playing any sport beside soccer. How long would it take us to win a World Cup? 4 years? 8 might be generous.
