Saving Sam! 🪱⛵️📎 Sam the gummy worm capsized his boat. Students worked as a team to get his “lifesaver” from under the “boat”. Rules were that they could not touch Sam, his boat, or his lifesaver. They only thing they could use was a paperclip! Team work!

Last week, we made it rain. 🌧 We learned that rain creates a runoff into estuaries. Which in turn brings salt into our oceans. Therefore, salt from Earth’s crusts leads to salty waters! 🌊🐠🐡

How many drops will my penny hold? In this experiment, students put their knowledge of surface tension and cohesion to the test to understand why the water droplets held onto one another. This experiment quickly turned into a tournament! 🏆

oday we used Skittles to model the protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom. We used the periodic table as a resource to find the number of protons and electrons in each atoms. Of course we got to eat the Skittles after we were done. 🤪

Static Electricity & Atoms!💥We recently started learning about atoms and the parts of atoms. Today we conducted an experiment to learn more about static electricity. We learned that static electricity is really an imbalance of negative and positive charges in objects.

Today students recognized the types of conflict in the book Hatchet. I even heard, “This is fun!” 🤩🥳

We have been reading Hatchet by Gary Paulson for the last couple of weeks. The 5th graders made a movie poster with their favorite scene so far. They LOVE this book and are SO excited to keep reading! 🌲🪓🌳

Our ecosystem in a bottle! 🌱🐠 After creating our ecosystem, the 5th graders discussed the abiotic and biotic factors. They then had to create a diagram explaining the ecosystem. They loved meeting Beta! 🤩
