Hurt feelings is very 2009 to me. 2009 ash was gearing up to become Halsey. Hurt feelings is a song about the version of me right before I became Halsey. The version of me most often forgotten. Inner child gets work, Halsey gets work. The middle years get lost. I owe it to her.

I was thinking in decades when I arranged the songs so a lot of tracks have multiple influences. Especially when there were artists who signify certain eras for me, personally. For example Darwinism is Bowie. But it’s a 90s record bc it’s Radiohead. And Radiohead was doing Bowie!
