#Serbia: Angry driver punches @tvnova_s journalist #AnaMarković knocking her phone on the ground as she covered a protest in Belgrade. Nearby bystanders intervened to defend her. The rally, held to honor victims of the Novi Sad train station tragedy, turned violent as drivers clashed with students, professors, and other attendees. Despite police being only 150m away, they failed to intervene. This attack reflects the growing impunity for violence against journalists in Serbia, exacerbated by a lack of institutional support and accountability. Women Press Freedom strongly condemns this assault and calls on authorities to take swift action to protect journalists and hold attackers accountable.

#Azerbaijan: As the Baku hosts world leaders at COP29, wrongfully jailed Abzas Media journalists #SevinjVagifqizi, #ElnaraGasimova, & #NargizAbsalamova are assaulted in ther detention center. A guard trapped Sevinj's hand in a vent, leaving severe bruises. Elnara was hit by guards & faces new false accusations. Nargiz is denied family visits, with cellmates also punished in an attempt to provoke hostility. The journalists have urgently called for legal support and warned of a potential hunger strike if the mistreatment persists. Women Press Freedom is deeply concerned for their safety and condemns Azerbaijan’s ongoing persecution of independent media. The international community’s failure to hold Azerbaijan accountable is appalling. All jailed journalists must be immediately and unconditionally released.

#Montenegro: Women Press Freedom condemns the brutal assault on journalist #AnaRaičković by businessman Zoran Bećirović, his son, and a bodyguard. Raičković, a well-known reporter for @Pobjedacg, was viciously attacked—punched, threatened with being “burned alive” if she didn’t stop her work, and had her head slammed against her car door. Her son, who came to her defense, was pinned down and beaten; her fiancé was also assaulted, and the journalist's car was vandalized. This horrific attack left Raičković with injuries to her neck, head, and hands. The level of violence is utterly deplorable, and the attackers must face justice. We commend the Montenegrin police for their swift arrests and call for full accountability. We wish Ana a swift recovery and urge the prompt prosecution of those responsible for this attack.
