CFWIJ and Women Press Freedom stands in solidarity with journalist Javeria Siddiqui, widow of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, who was killed in Kenya in 2022. More than three years later, justice remains elusive, while Javeria reports escalating harassment, intimidation, and surveillance in Pakistan. A Pakistani fact-finding team concluded that Arshad Sharif’s killing was pre-planned, and the Kenyan High Court declared it unlawful, yet no one has been held accountable. We call on authorities to ensure her safety, end the harassment, and deliver justice. No journalist or family member should live in fear for demanding accountability. [Javeria Siddiqui, Arshad Sharif, justice, press freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, free speech, protect journalists, end impunity, Pakistan, journalist, women journalists, women in journalism, CFWIJ, Women Press Freedom] @CFWIJ @javerias

It's been 3 years snd 3 months since I lost my brave investigative journalist husband, Arshad Sharif, and I'm still fighting for justice in Pakistan and Kenya. As a journalist, it's not easy to keep going without spouse, facing harassment and in battle for justice, but I'm grateful for the unwavering support of my country fellows, local journalists unions, lawyers, social media users and international media community. Special thanks to PFUJ and RIUJ for standing with me, and a big thank you to IFJ for awarding me the International Press Card (IPC) on your 100-year celebration. I'm proud to be a journalist, activist, and unionist, and I'll continue to play my role in promoting press freedom and seeking justice. #JusticeForArshadSharif @IFJGlobal @ifjasiapacific @abellanger49

The PFUJ President Rana Muhammad Azeem condemned the harassment of journalist Javeria Siddique, widow of slain journalist Arshad Sharif, by unidentified miscreants shouting threatening slogans outside her residence. The PFUJ expressed solidarity with Javeria Siddique and urged government and law enforcement agencies to investigate the harassment, bring culprits to justice, and provide protection to her and her family. Secretary General Shakeel Ahmad met with the IG Islamabad, demanding immediate action against the culprits. @IFJGlobal @ifjasiapacific @CPJAsia @RSF_inter @CFWIJ

The Syrian people fought for more than 13 years not just to rid themselves of Bashar al-Assad, but also for the right to decide their own fate. The only way Syria will stabilize is if all Syrians have a stake in the country’s future and if they collectively share power.

Happy birthday to me! I don't have much to celebrate, but I'd love your blessings and prayers. @Fereeha got this cake for me, and it's was a lovely gesture. From laughter to tears, from companionship to solitude... This July 8th, my birthday will never be the same. #JusticeForArshadSharif

Anti-doxing laws, if not drafted carefully, could become tools to punish legitimate journalism and public advocacy. Read the letter we signed with eight other organizations urging the Uniform Law Commission to pause potential legislation: spj.org/spj-urges-caut…
