At least 3,373 people in the US have been convicted of crimes only for it to be later proved that they were completely innocent — and that’s only the cases we know about! How can we continue to allow our legal system to mete out an irreversible punishment like the death penalty?

Arizona executed Murray Hooper this morning. Prison staff struggled to set the lethal injection IV lines. They eventually had to cut into Murray’s thigh and insert a catheter into his femoral artery. An expert remarked that “lethal injection creates a circus of suffering.”

Reminder: Alabama is about to kill a man whose judge overrode the jury’s the jury’s 11-1 life sentence recommendation. The practice is so abhorrent that every state in the nation now has gotten rid of it. Alabama was last to do so, in 2017, and the decision was not retroactive.

If I’m intubating a baby, and I grab a 1 Miller instead of a 00 Miller, I’ll know instantly. If I’m intubating a baby, and you hand me a 3.5 ETT instead of a 2.5 ETT, I’ll know instantly. If during surgery, you hand a surgeon a scalpel instead of a bovie, she’ll know instantly.
