Lovely day in my FRCM robes yesterday at the RCM graduation ceremony! Congratulations to everyone there, especially making it through COVID lockdowns with such positive attitudes. #growthmindset

@mtpennycook You’ve got my vote if you commit to making this happen. I’m pretty disappointed that the Tories seem to be watering this down. Hope you win the vote though.

Labour will force a vote today on ending the archaic system of homeownership that is leasehold. If the Tories abandon fundamental and comprehensive leasehold reform, a Labour government will finish the job. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

@JohnFinnemore “Well, since you ask for a story about the perils of putting your Sul Ponticello before your slur I might be able to provide a short Divertimento…”

Sorry, I meant, what are the technical terms involved? Here’s the line I’d ideally have, with placeholder words I know are wrong. What’s the right version? “Your [obbligatos] are all very well, but you need to put in some time [practising your scales]”

Musicians! If you wanted to say a talented amateur violinist spent too much time showing off a show-boaty technique and not enough time just practising the basics, how would you put it? (I’ll delete this when I’ve got a good answer, so as not to waste future answerers’ time…)

@johnredwood As opposed to our appalling management of health and education in England? Which is beginning to feel like a ruse to sell it all off to some random US health provider who has taken enough of your colleagues out to lunch?

Gordon Brown’s idea of always giving more powers to the Scottish Parliament encourages the SNP to press for independence. It takes attention away from why they manage the Scottish services badly. They have control of Scottish health and education so why aren’t they better?

@johnredwood We could still have a viable and green(ish) coal industry if it hadn’t been run down by the Tories in the 1980s along with our other primary industries to “smash the unions”. Coal arrived from Brazil as free ballast in empty ships. No attempt to protect our own by the Tories!

Once again we are relying on coal to keep the lights on. Our steel industry needs coal to survive. Why do Greens insist on us importing it when we could produce it at home and save CO2 on the transport?
