@BattleshipNJ Russ passed away in 2018, just a few days before Christmas at the age of 92, but his stories and legacy will remain aboard the New Jersey well into the future. Listen to his story here - buff.ly/499ZKqz

@BattleshipNJ Russ gave me a first-hand account of his life aboard the New Jersey. It was a fascinating and detailed look at one of the most impressive ships to ever serve the Navy. Sometime later, I met Russ again at his home to interview him about his time in the Navy and after.

#AmericanVeteranProject Russ Collins served in the #navy during WWII aboard the USS New Jersey (BB-62), now a museum ship docked in Camden, NJ, renamed the @BattleshipNJ. Several decades later, Russ returned to the New Jersey as a volunteer, which is where I met him in 2015.

Meet Frank, a young sailor stationed at Pearl Harbor 83yrs ago today. He lived through the attack, surviving by leaping from his ship when it was hit, and went on to fight for the rest of the war. Take a minute to listen to his story - buff.ly/499ZKqz @VM_Center

No sports in this post, it's more personal to me. December 7, 1941 - a lifetime away for most of us, but for a generation, a day that altered their lifetime. I spent a decade photographing military veterans, WW2 to present, for a personal project. But I never shared the images.
