NEW STUDY: Shocks to the global economy related to biodiversity loss and ecosystem damage could cost upwards of $5 trillion. 'Nature is not the elephant in the room, it’s the huge green scorpion running towards us,' says study author @NicolaRanger. ox.ac.uk/news/2023-12-1…

This scale of risk assessment is really pushing the limit of what global data can be used for, but it can be a useful first-order view of risk and help to focus further detailed analyses. Thanks so much to my co-authors Faye Blenkin and @triggmat for all their inputs. (4/4)

Combining this new exposure data with flood maps from @fathom_global we find that ~96% of camps in Ethiopia are exposed to flooding of some degree and shed some light on the different risk profiles in camps throughout the country. (3/4)

Really pleased to share our recently published paper, exploring the use of global data for refugee camp flood risk assessments in Ethiopia iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108…. We find that global population maps are really poor at capturing camps. (1/4)

We had Global Flood international workshop in Komaba, inviting ~15 researchers from abroad. Thanks for visiting our team in UTokyo, and I'm happy that we had a very good discussion.

What a nice way to sign off my time at @LeedsUniEng. The final paper of my PhD has just been published! We explore the use of global data for flood risk management at national scales and find that not all global flood risk data may be suited to the task. (1/2)
