Harry Maguire, who is English and Northern Irish… … has been demographically replaced in the England World Cup team by an African named ‘Addji Keaninkin Marc-Israel Guéh’ born in Ivory Coast. What’s the point in a ‘national’ football team if someone who is NOT from that nation can join? Maguire should play for England. Guéh should play for Ivory Coast. Common sense. I’m sure Maguire isn’t even allowed to contest this decision because, as his shirt says in the photo below, ‘no room for racism’.

Interesting stuff from Aaron Rai talking about how he played golf as a kid, and a pretty stark juxtaposition of how 99% of kids are taught today. He didn't play from a real set of tees until he was 12, learning how to take it under par at a very early age.

I hope to campaign for @AndyBurnhamGM in the Makerfield by-election. He represents our best chance of keeping the seat, and I hope our NEC and local party members make that choice. We do need our best players on the pitch.
Andy Burnham@AndyBurnhamGM

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

Civilians are always killed in wars, and that’s always sad. But even by Hamas’s total death figure for the Gaza war of 72,000, when properly deconstructed (because this didn’t acknowledge even one single combatant killed, nor any Gazans killed by misfired rockets from Gaza falling short, nor any Gazans murdered by Hamas, nor any Gazans who died from natural causes) Israeli estimates of at least 22,000 combatants killed mean that the ratio of between 1.5 and 2 civilians killed for every one combatant is far lower than the ratio of civilians killed in any other war, ever (the global average is 9:1) — even when Hamas used civilians as cannon fodder and human shields. As any rational, fair-minded person would conclude: exemplary is an understatement. x.com/Aizenberg55/st…

Melanie Phillips thinks Israel’s behaviour has been “exemplary”. What do you even say to that? Innocent children, women and men killed but they did it “exemplary”. 🤦‍♂️ 😠

Today we announce a new policy: In order to deport all illegal migrants in Britain, Reform will need to detain tens of thousands at a time. Migrants will not be able to leave these detention centres, and each will be held there a couple of weeks before being deported. So here’s our promise: A Reform government will not put any migrant detention facilities in any constituency with a Reform MP. Nor will we put them where Reform controls the council. And of the remaining areas, we will prioritise Green controlled parliamentary constituencies and Green controlled councils to locate the detention centres. Put simply, if you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will. This is an important exercise in democratic consent, not just for our mass deportation policy, but for where the detention centres are placed. Given @ZackPolanski openly advocates for open borders, I look forward to their warm embrace of this policy. votegreengetillegals.com

I've just finished a morning interval session. That's the reason I'm still able to 'battle' for 1st lady at parkrun. I wasn't magically born an Olympian, I worked hard to get there. I was, however, born a woman. #makeparkrunfairforall #inclusivity

@sharrond62 @parkrunUK Jeez it’s a fun run. Get over it. The only competive element is competing against yourself and your own times. Stop politicising a community fun run. It’s pathetic.

The point is 100% that IF @parkrunUK was/is non competitive it could do away with categories, records & places. But men in particular, would be up in arms, purely because there IS an element of non elite, but still competition. What’s not ok is that IF that element remains females are entitled to fair access to that same service as males. And if Parkrun is given tax payers money via Sport England, in part to grow female participation, they need a metric to measure that. They have non with self ID. Of course I want Parkrun to flourish, grow & carry on, but it can’t have both, half in, half out. It needs to decide. Remove competition, or have it stay & be fair to both sexes. The gaslighting & deflection needs to stop. And those men who seem to not care less for equality of opportunity take stock of facts. Records have returned via the app & places are published online, in categories. Males have over 20 women’s course records & stolen over 200 first places, bumping down women in their own category every weekend. This does not go both ways! Yet women are supposed to not care about their results? This is sex discrimination. Which is not allowed in Uk law.
