There's a meeting of the full Limerick City (and, feckit, the county too) Council at 3pm today. Will be watching. Might be fun in parts, like the dodgy end of a curate's egg. Feel free to follow along.🧵 #CouncilMeetingThread

I’m not kidding when I say I wish we could escape the online for the few hours we are on a plane. Obviously I understand you don’t have to take it up. But you’re increasingly in a place where the world *knows* you are connected. So what are you going to do?

NEWS: Aer Lingus will operate its first flight with Starlink Wi-Fi today from Dublin to New York JFK, becoming the first Irish airline to offer Starlink onboard. “Starlink is a constellation of more than 10,000 satellites that orbit Earth. This means Aer Lingus customers flying on @Starlink-equipped aircraft will be able to seamlessly work, browse, shop and connect from the air on multiple devices on the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky, with download speeds of up to 500+ Mbps." Aer Lingus will equip all aircraft with Starlink in a phased rollout, beginning with aircraft flying to North America, followed by those serving European destinations. Starlink Wi-Fi is expected to be available across the airline’s entire long-haul fleet by Q1 2027.

@PlayerGaelic Sure. Ultimately for something like this to work it needs to be governed. HQ/ County Boards/ Clubs / Referees etc

@markdconnolly I get the ‘managing numbers’ move that coaches might adopt. Might a club counter that by making it clear to all parents that their sons/daughters cannot be left off a squad because of a limit on numbers?

Read it a few times for clarity. Comment, question, edit, accept, reject etc. Avoid mention of the player who doesn’t train as much as others and still gets to play 50% of a game. For every one of those, there are many on the bench who do train and get little or no game time.

@rugby_ap Candid and honourable, he should remember that his own head coach showed no such loyalty to Munster…All is fair when it comes to your dream job ….

Unreal stuff across the board for all the club finals. You can’t but watch on & wish it could be your club someday. But you also can’t but watch & not be so so impressed to listen to how well all these people speak afterwards in victory & defeat. Fantastic role models 👍🏻

Yes, you can see the guide rail there (yellow) but you need a point to point route navigation with few branches, all indicated from every point with giant location indicators at each point. Do that and it’s a near-perfect system for neophytes.

I’m in d’hospital at the mo (since Monday, a victim of scheduling as far as I can see) but that’s not important: I’m just setting the scene. Anyhoo, I have just seen my first episode of Killinascully, which, as The Writer informed me many years ago “is not aimed at me”.

@JJOBrien7 @DamienYoung01 @CoratellaPh Interesting work, well done. Imagine how much better a starter in a given position has to be compared to an alternative on the bench to justify staying on past the nth minute. We see in rugby South Africa emptying their bench at 45/50 mins.

@PlayerGaelic Honestly I think you’d have to give the form to the parents, ask them to complete it with the club/ school coach and return it to the development squad. Then there’s no issue at all. Schools wouldn’t touch this otherwise. Not sure clubs would either. Parental consent a must.

Still on the subject of development squads: For each player, the county management makes contact with… A. Club B. School …with one request. “Tell us about your player.” How useful might that information be for managers and coaches of development squads?

There are people in clubs who would like to manage rather than coach. Should we have a suite of courses which lead to management qualifications? After all, managing and coaching are two very different roles. Some describe the former as the more challenging. Thoughts?
