Tulane Green Wave 🏈 Coaching Search: Will Hall Why this Makes Sense: Stability Hall steps in as an internal coach with deep ties to the Green Wave. While his head coaching record at Southern Miss (14-30 from 2021-2024) draws criticism, Hall’s proven track record at Tulane, offensive expertise, and ability to foster continuity make him a calculated choice for the Wave. 1. Proven Success as a OC Hall previously served as Tulane’s OC under Willie Fritz, transforming the offense into one of the program’s most explosive units. 2019 11th nationally in rushing offense 243.2 avg 22nd in total offense 449.3 avg 30th in scoring offense 33.1 avg The team set school records with 3,162 rushing yards, 33 rushing touchdowns, and 166 rushing first downs. Hall’s scheme a multiple formation, power spread, no huddle, hurry up attack, eclipsed 500 total yards five times, including a 634-yard outburst against UConn. He recruited and developed QB Michael Pratt, who became a cornerstone of Tulane’s success. His philosophy aligns with Tulane’s run-first identity while adding explosiveness. 2. Roster and Staff Continuity Hall rejoined Tulane in January 2025 as pass game coordinator under Sumrall. He collaborated closely with offensive coordinator Joe Craddock on game planning, helping the 2025 offense rank in the top 40 nationally in total yards (416.3) and scoring (29). Quarterback Jake Retzlaff thrived posting 2,862 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, a 62.4% completion rate, plus 610 rushing yards and 16 scores. As an internal promotion, Hall offers seamless continuity. Tulane’s roster, bolstered by recent successes is less likely to experience the typical transfer portal exodus. Don’t get me wrong players will still come and go. I believe this hire signals confidence in the foundation built over four years, potentially retaining key players and coordinators like Craddock, Gasparato, and supporting/recruiting staff. 3. HC Exp 70-50 career head coaching record across NCAA Division II (25-11 at West Alabama, 2011-2013; 31-9 at West Georgia, 2014-2016, including a shared Gulf South Conference title) and FBS (USM) At West Alabama, he won two conference championships West Georgia, his teams were consistently playoff contenders. While Southern Miss struggled post-2022 (4-15 in his final two years, leading to his October 2024 firing), that program faced unique challenges, like a brand new transfer portal that USM totally got caught with their pants down. They did not have a collective or a Fear The Wave installed. At 45, he’s young enough for long term stability but seasoned from 20+ years in coaching. 4. Recruiting and Cultural Fit Hall excels in talent acquisition, notably landing Pratt (42 rushing touchdowns in 2018, leading to back-to-back AAC title games). His return to Tulane leverages local ties his father, Bobby Hall, is Mississippi’s winningest high school coach, aiding Gulf South recruiting. Players and staff praise his energy (“I’m really enjoying running around and coaching again”) and player relations, which could boost retention amid NIL demands. Tulane’s views this as betting on internal momentum over splashy external hires. Everyone point’s to his Southern Miss game management flaws and underwhelming FBS wins, but those overlook the context: Tulane’s resources, talent base, and recruiting hot bed of LA position him for success. If Hall recaptures his OC magic emphasizing speed, recruiting, and scheme innovation, Tulane could extend its success. My Grade: B- This isn’t a home run like Sumrall, but it’s a smart single that keeps the Wave rolling. Only time will tell if Hall can keep it going! #RollWave

@mirandareinert It is definitely up there! I bought Plans at a record store in Orlando as I was getting ready to drive 18 hours straight back to Chicago after Hurricane Katrina, so it always takes me back to the dead of night blasting it on the car stereo in the middle of nowhere.
