It’s deeply disheartening to witness the backlash against Keith Wasserman. Keith was fighting to save his home and the cherished memories of his family. Almost anyone in his position, faced with flames at their doorstep, would have acted similarly. I’ve seen the criticism—accusations of "privilege" and "tone-deafness." But have you ever faced a moment when your entire world was literally on the brink of destruction? This wasn’t about defying public services; it was about grasping for any lifeline in the midst of chaos. Keith has always demonstrated a commitment to community, as evidenced by his philanthropic efforts. This wasn’t a display of greed but a moment of personal crisis. His actions weren’t intended to take away from others or undermine anyone’s efforts—they were driven by an instinct to protect what he loves. It’s easy to judge from a distance, but understanding requires stepping into someone else’s shoes. In times of disaster, we all do what we can to safeguard our families and our memories. Keith’s motivations were pure—rooted in love for his wife, his children, and their home. To see him torn down during what is already one of the most challenging moments of his life is profoundly sad. We need less judgment and more empathy. Nearly anyone with Keith’s resources, faced with the same dire circumstances, would have done the exact same thing. My heart goes out to Keith and everyone else whose lives have been profoundly affected by this devastating fire.
