Jesus. So it seems signing a contract to play in the Indian Premier League is a commitment similar to joining the French Foreign Legion. Although there's no option to change your identity in the IPL and you can at least leave the Legion after 5 years service. It's only cricket.

Well hopefully the successor can be encouraged to visit Essex a bit more often than the last one obviously did. I mean, they do supply a successful England captain every decade or so.

UK tax cycle is absolutely ridiculous. Goes as follows: work, pay inc. tax, pay NI, pay VAT, pay into a pension, save whatever's left. Retire, pay VAT, pay tax on pension and savings interest. HM Treasury right up there with Sherrif of Nottingham folklore.

I’ve been critical of Michael Vaughan chasing headlines and trying to manufacture clickbait quotes. I think he’s tarnished his 2005 legacy a bit by doing that. I’m one of many fans that he’s blocked. But, having said all that, credit where it’s due. Having listened to him on the TMS podcast and his own pod today, he sounds a lot more competent and capable than Rob Key. He clearly has a vision for England. He is a proven performer. I don’t think he would take any crap. He might even knock a few heads together. Would you like to see him take over from Key?

£52 at Costa and £174 at Pizza Express. For lunch. A whole chicken feeding 6-8 costs about £6. I'd probably pass on the glass of wine at £11 from Pizza Express. There's an impact on hospitality. Maybe they should serve up more roasted chicken.

I’ve done absolutely zero this weekend aside from dog walks, break out fancy skin care, read books, light the Good Candles, build Lego, eat loads of fruit & it’s been absolutely glorious. I really needed silence and my own company.
