Hey Twitter friends- I’m launching a newsletter to drive private sector-led environmental problem solving. I’ll draw from my experience at TNC & GS. We’ll look at strategies for both orgs & individuals. I’d love your support. Subscribe here: (bit.ly/3n29t9E)

@MarkTercek Birdwatching teaches this quickly. Sit still for 20 minutes and the landscape fills with movement and sound. Constant phone checking makes most of that invisible. Attention is a prerequisite for caring about nature.

Do you favor healthier minds, stronger communities, & a more functional public life? If so, it's time to push back hard on the social media mind grab. "Attensity" shows us the way --open.substack.com/pub/marktercek…

I wrote the lead essay in the new ⁦@readliberties⁩ about climate policy and politics in the Trump era. The orange man is very bad. But the climate movement hasn’t always faced the implications of his badness.

Who's winning the Iran war? Well nobody really comes out ahead from this ill-conceived misadventure. But here's my take on why decarbonization should be the long term winner -- open.substack.com/pub/marktercek…

"Remember: There is no plan B on this; if alternative meats do not succeed, meat’s climate and deforestation impacts will just get worse and worse and worse. I dive into the peer review science across the range of agricultural climate mitigation options and point out that even if they all worked (which is very unlikely), meat-based climate change will just keep growing, because the mitigation options are swamped by increased meat demand. For your readers in particular, this all begs the question: Is this a climate emergency, or isn’t it?" I'm a huge fan of former president and CEO of @nature_org @MarkTercek; I have learned a tremendous amount from his Substack, The Instigator, so I am incredibly honored that he dedicated his most recent post to a q-n-a with me about my new book Meat. Mark has his finger on the pulse of the global nature and climate policy and NGO community, so he knows the most important questions to ask. Please share it with friends and colleagues for whom climate and nature is a significant concern. Check out the full interview: lnkd.in/gcueYtTa

The US produces power from 6 sources. There's essentially no new build of nuke, coal, or hydro. Thus gas, wind, and solar must collectively meet all load growth this decade. But with tight supply chains, limited pipe and power lines, and intermittency, we can't rely on any single one. All 3 must be part of the solution for affordable and reliable electricity. That requires the ability to permit and build each of them.
