I’ve said this week that this season is big for 4 players, as at least 2 of them likely need to be sold next summer. One or both of Solanke and Richarlison need to step up and prove they can stay fit and get a consistent 20 goals a season. And one or both of Odobert and Tel need to show more - they need to show they can consistently influence games and not just “look bright” and live off potential forever. If none of them do it, then sell them all. And if they all do brilliantly, then great - we can likewise keep them all. But what we definitely cannot do is go into the 2026/27 season keeping fingers crossed, praying for potential to be realised and saying “maybe this will be their season.” We cannot afford passengers anymore and to waste valuable overseas squad places.

2025, 2 years on and some people still can’t see or better yet choose to ignore the detrimental impact of having Johnson play for us just because of some tap-ins and decent finishes. Whichever flank he’s on becomes a black hole, which hinders our ability to hurt teams. The ball doesn’t get retained, progressed, recycled. Teams double/triple up in central areas or the opposite area because they don’t have to worry about him out wide. It kills us but you’ll have people saying ‘who else will score for us’ not seeing how our overall ability to score goals in gen is impacted. No amount of G/A will ever make these consistently poor performances acceptable for me
