My grandma has 1 first name that's 2 words. I never questioned it before but her first name is "Jere Rae" and really that's 2 names bc there's a space but it's 1 name bc it is

They don't exist in that part of the word and so people struggle to pronounce the sounds in those contexts

Like how native Spanish speakers struggle to say words that start with S because that does not exist in Spanish. And native English speakers struggle to pronounce Spanish words that end in E because we don't do that in English. Those r both sounds that exist in both languages but

One thing about linguistics that fascinates me phonotactics. In some ways they're completely arbitrary and they really dictate how well you can pronounce other languages just because we're so used to the way sounds feel in our mouths already

I somehow got in the habit of saying "ingenuine" instead of "disingenuous" which IS a real word but the OED says it's considered obsolete and was only used in the mid 17th century
