Marshall Berle began his career at the William Morris Agency, and in 1962 signed The Beach Boys to a long-term agency contract, representing them from the start of their career through 1965. Brian Wilson was 20 years old when I met him along with his brothers and father, Murray Wilson. Worked with The Beach Boys booking concerts, going on the road with them and was best friends with Dennis Wilson. Helped arrange the first pay-per-view concert starring the Beatles and The Beach Boys. Brian was an absolute genius! His contribution to music will last forever! God Bless Brian..RIP

Van Halen was discovered by a combination of key figures, with the pivotal moment leading to their record deal occurring in February 1977. Rodney Bingenheimer, a radio disc jockey, first saw Van Halen perform at Gazzarri’s in 1976 and recommended them to Gene Simmons of KISS. Simmons, impressed by their performance, signed them to his production company, Man of 1,000 Faces, and financed and produced a 15-song demo at Electric Lady Studios in New York. Despite his efforts, the demo didn’t attract immediate interest from record labels, and Simmons, unable to commit due to KISS’s touring schedule, tore up the contract, freeing the band to pursue other opportunities. The critical breakthrough came when Marshall Berle, a talent manager, saw Van Halen perform at a sold-out show in Pasadena. Berle, along with musical entrepreneur Kim Fowley, arranged for them to play at the Whisky a Go Go, increasing their visibility. On February 2, 1977, producer Ted Templeman, tipped off by Berle, attended Van Halen’s performance at the Starwood Club in Hollywood. Impressed, he returned the next night with Warner Bros. Records president Mo Ostin. After the second show, Templeman and Ostin offered Van Halen a recording contract with Warner Bros., which led to their debut album in 1978. Thus, while Simmons and Bingenheimer played early roles in recognizing Van Halen’s potential, Marshall Berle’s advocacy and Ted Templeman’s decision, backed by Mo Ostin, were the decisive factors in securing their record deal with Warner Bros.
