@992rodney It's going to get interesting as we see more tools come online, even with CLI interfaces instead of MCP, the agent still needs to *know* about the cli tool existing and some rough context for when to use it. I'm curious to see how we're gonna scale this. Subagents forever?

The rising cost of groceries is hurting Ontario households. Politicians blame the “oligopoly” but avoid the harder question. Why do we not have more competition? Because we do not allow it. It is time to put consumers first. End anti competitive retail leasing and liberalize zoning so that more small grocers can compete on price and quality.

did they make claude dumber again? It's doing that thing where it does random terrible things like rewriting an SVG entirely when I want to move it

@EricDLombardi Also make it so we can build single stair in European courtyard fashion, not only allowed as freestanding small apartments like this photo. Both should be legal.

We need to make it possible to build out neighbourhoods this way, both in urban centers and in new places. But Ontario’s land use and building code rules make it impossible. That has to change!

Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command. It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards. Automated snapshots were gone too. In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again. If you use Terraform (or let agents touch infra), this is a good story for you to read. alexeyondata.substack.com/p/how-i-droppe…

I often find it hard to balance the optimism I have for the future of Ontario, with the anger I have regarding how we’ve been governed. We really can, and should be doing, much better than we are. Everyone knows our potential is enormous, we should live up to it!

@rsuyoy I look at an iPhone as almost already there. Sure sometimes we play games that require hardware but I can't name a single thing on my phone that isn't just a window to the cloud somehow. If my phone was just a browser device and every app was a web app I don't think I'd notice

@MarstonConnell I am wiling to bet on browsers winning a very big chunk of time spent on a computer but I wouldn’t go as far as saying the OS will live on a server

You should do the exact opposite of that actually. If anything is available on the web, I’ll prioritise the web version over a desktop one (especially if the desktop app is Electron slop). The way it already works for most people is the browser handles all miscellaneous tasks, and they keep separate apps are for heavy, highly specialized software (IDEs, video editing, Notion-like stuff, even though I’d personally use Notion on the web lol). Other than that, if your app isn’t relevant enough (and chances are it isn’t), I do not want to download an entire application and have to launch it in a separate window every single time just to use it. Please design and build accordingly! There might honestly be a paradigm shift happening with agentic AI. Some could argue that directory access (à la Claude Code) turns out to be super powerful and that you’ll want native desktop apps for it. That said, MCPs complicate the picture because they give AI access to tools and context without needing the OS-level integration, so I’m curious how that plays out. I used to strongly believe that integrating AI at the OS level was the only way for AI to actually reach normal people. Normies aren’t opening terminals, using MCPs, SDKs, or even prompting well lol. You can only make their lives easier if you sprinkle AI into the OS itself. I’m really incapable of forming a cohesive concrete view on what post-AI computing actually looks like. Too many actors, startups building on model providers’ LLMs, legacy OSs integrating AI very timidly at the system level, and no clear convergence yet (Apple part entered with openAI for Siri and now licensed a Google Gemini model lol?) Very curious to see where all this goes, exciting times!
