For three decades I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the biggest musicians, film stars, visionary artists, creative minds and brand leaders in the world. Working in and amongst art and entertainment at the highest level is a privilege very few get to experience first hand and I am grateful everyday for the opportunities my friends and colleagues have afforded me. So when I was introduced to an unassuming English lad from Swindon through mike winkelmann and another member of the art community (who will remain nameless) I took notice. Immediately we began working on a concept to create a collection of physical and digital twined artworks and drafted in Jean Milant of Cirrus editions, America's greatest living print maker, responsible for the era defining works of Ed Ruscha, Jonas Wood and John Baldessari. 'Checks Elements' was born. So here we are, and again i'm on stage at "Wembley" with my friends Jack Butcher, Jean Robert Milant , Jalil Wahdatehagh and James Traf, only this time it's not London but New York City, during Frieze, for the Jack Butcher solo auction at Christie's, the greatest auction house in the world. As the brothers Gallagher once said atop a hill in Nebworth in 1996 "This IS History". And to all my new brothers and sisters in the digital art and web 3.0 space, I believe the acronym best suited for this moment is.. Congrats to Jack on the Checks Elements Christie’s auction going for USD $18.9k The provenance portfolio continues to grow.

We talk a lot about desires for broader consumer adoption of our tech but simply don’t make much room for outside curiosity with the web3 native mechanics currently in place. We put often arbitrary caps on participation when it is possible for a group to have as many members as want to be a part of it. As someone guided by principles of inclusivity, I really think a positive and potentially viable exploration/approach here might be “the more the merrier” and I am committed to dedicating time and resources towards exploring what a model like that can look like. Artists: The above is not a model that necessarily applies to purely artistic releases or “art for the sake of art itself” platforms. This idea is certainly not directed towards you and you should of course continue to take scarcity into consideration when thinking through release of new work (if applicable)! It is also not necessarily your burden to expand adoption, although of course efforts are always appreciated. This is a self inflicted burden resulting from watching the series of events that have transpired over the last few months. Not at the Art level, but at the ecosystem level. I am challenging myself to really dig into what a more inclusive generative release might look like, akin to the original (and admittedly naive) intentions of the Chromie Squiggle, and am hopeful that I can achieve that through concepts built under the premise of an inclusive edition. Art is one of many use cases for NFT tech, and generally the technology has demonstrated the power to elevate concepts of community and dialogue to an entirely new level, especially in the purview of #1of1ofX content. For that reason I think that shedding the concept of scarcity is in specific situations going to be one of many paths towards increasing adoption of our beloved technology, and I encourage ecosystem stakeholders to think about this as they continue on their journey in the creator economy. And based on my timeline the last few days I just have to acknowledge @jackbutcher and @jalil_eth on work that feels aligned and brings delight and participation beyond concepts of scarcity to a broad audience. 🍻
